RT+ Wheels

Have been researching wheels and tyres and think I have settled on the following..

OZ Superleggera Race 15 Inch ET18 offset (if I can get them, if not ET35's and spacers)

Kumho Ecsta MX KU15 205/50 15 tyres (86W rated)

Can anyone comment on them before I place my order?

86 is a high load rating even if they w rated , perhaps they might not be squashy enough . Ive got 88V rated tyres on my volvo 740 about a 700 kg difference !!

86 load rating is about as low as I can get for a tyre that needs to handle the performance..

Most of the tyres are 86V's but really I need W's due to the "potential" speed being in excess of 150mph...

Can get them as low as 78 if I go to 195/45's but they are only V Rated and will fail SVA...

Put the "potential speed" of the 7 as being 120. Doubt they'll question it.

What when the donor car had a max speed way in excess of that????

Surely they arent that dumb???

the aero dynamics of a seven type car are very different to the cosworth,150 is optomistic i would have thought,it will get there quick though

Hmmm

I would imagine with 400bhp and less than 600kgs it wont have much difficulty making 150mph

lmfao

But seriously tho, how much of an issue is this? Bear in mind the front is gonna be quite heavy with the cossie motor, and the tyres are kumho's ultra high performance, not quite track day tyres..

Avon ZZR's are 86W
Hankook RS2's 86W

It appears that almost all the 205/50's are 86V or 86W

Arrrggghhhh why is it all so difficult... I need big grip with 400bhp and probably 350+ ft/lbs of torque, but all the high performance tyres are high load rated...

Volvorsport - 5/9/05 at 09:49 AM

Most cars that do that speed are also heavy - and need a tyre that wont grow as much as the squashy ones - avon turbospeeds i thought were 82V - just select 135 mph as a top speed , say youve got a lower diff ratio ?

wouldnt want you to do a raikkonen !!

WHen i asked the kuhmo motorsport man what i needed for hillclimbing he said ecsta 712 , altho that pattern isnt available anymore , its now SPT .

Im sure some of the List 1B tyres will have plenty of choice .

G.Man - 5/9/05 at 10:01 AM

You mean these?

The KU15's are supposed to be the a more dry weather oriented version of the 712's

Gonna speak to Marc (if he rings me back) and see what he thinks...

I think for mainly track work, where the max speed may be used, V rated may be a bit borderline... Would prefer some headroom...

Volvorsport - 5/9/05 at 10:37 AM

mine are more KU31 - but then thats what i have for the 740 - and its ok for 140 .

Try coming down a size to 195/50/15 its not such a big tyre , so its load rating isnt as high .

so really need to find a tyre that fits a production car thast lightweight and has a high top speed - lotus elise ?

in honesty youll be ok with the high load rated ones - theyll jsut be a stiffer carcass .

G.Man - 5/9/05 at 11:07 AM

Lotus Elise etc would be Yokohama A048R's...

£150 each

I am thinking that the stiffer carcass will make the car a little more skittish on road is that right? but will have less of an impact on track...

If these dont work out, will change to toyo 888's for the next tyre...

marc n - 5/9/05 at 11:09 AM

me personally i would definately go over on the speed rating not under

best regards

marc

Actually changed the tyres now for Toyo 888's 86W rated...

Sitting in my dining room next to the boxes containing the OZ wheels
