Hyabusa engined Vortex?
bitsilly - 12/6/08 at 08:09 PM

Our Vortex with an R1 is currently performing well on the track, but the lack of torque is frustrating.
So three questions
1) Are there any Hyabusa engined Vortexes (ie does a cradle and necessary bits exist)
2) Is the Hyabusa significantly better than R1 on carbs.
3) Does anyone know if there is anyone in the cardiff area who could tune an R1.

Cheers all

ps Be aware that a Vortex and a track day will lead to instant addiction!!

I think turboing it would be cheaper and faster than a busa.

had beer so might not be compltly acurate.

1, Yes - but the bottom chassis mounts will be different I think.

2, Dont know - but BHP figures dont tell all the story ( a good spread of good bhp ) is better than one dolop between 11,000 and 11,500 RPM

3, Have not got a clue

R1 tunning would make more sense if it was me

Hmmmmm. Had not thought of turbo and to be honest wouldn't have a clue where to start unless it's been done before, but it sounds cool! Any links etc would be useful!

I know torque is not something you have a shortage of but do you know if there's anyone who posts here with the hyabusa (in a vortex)?

cheers gents

Hi ring MNR they have sold a few and one recently

also a busa is a lot better than a carb R1 but not much better than a injected 07/8 R1

2000 busa in stock on Monday Ģ1600

I think I can safely say its been done before

And if its torque your after mine starts to build boost @ 4k and pulls like a train all the way to the limiter!

Have a look here all the info you should need: http://WWW.turbo-bike.net/

hi ed

benefit of an early busa over an r1 is it isnt a noticable when you are two up, up to 100 there isnt a great deal in it one up in the car but over a 100 the extra ccs and power show up, especially when two up

to change
1.lower engine mounts would need to be swapped
2. different cradle
3. clutch is hydraulic rather than cable, so an extra master cylinder and different pedal needed, and of course the exhaust,
you will also need a power commander, and possibly a new front prop as the sprocket is further away from memory and wiring altering
also a baffled sump at least or a accusump / dry sump

if it was me i would turbo the r1 probably cheaper or fit the latest busa ( a real stonking engine )

cheers

forgot to add that the busas , zx12s etc are considerably heavier than the r1

I think busakid on here built one of the demonstrators i saw at donnington. If your after the busa the conversions going to be hassel. If it was me id probably start a fresh with a new kit or keep what youve got and tune the current engine

TimC - 13/6/08 at 03:20 PM

Ho Ho Ho.

Go for a Turbo - that way when it is [Borat]Great Success!![/Borat] I can just copy you.

bitsilly - 13/6/08 at 08:03 PM

have e-mailed mc-express re providing the whole kit, fingers crossed it will cost 53p and will make a mad car.

Tim, have now had instruction at Llandow so look forward to watching how you do (IN MY REAR VIEW MIRROR!).

road warrior - 13/6/08 at 11:12 PM

See if someone here can give you a run in a later injected version like '06+. You are welcome to try ours but the travel could be expensive.

It could be a cheaper option as you don't need all the dry sump stuff.

What diff ratio are you running?

marc n - 14/6/08 at 06:09 AM

even changing to a newer r1 its a different manifold, cradle, lower mounts and wiring im afraid, i would go for a mild turbo conversion, we are hoping to turbo our new 06 powered car

cheers

Having driven both (03) R1 and busa powered BECs of otherwise very similar spec, I completely agree with Marc's observations. At road speeds there's very little difference and its only when you get into 3 figures on track that the busa gains ground, so upgrading to a Busa is a big expense for a small gain.

Davey D - 14/6/08 at 08:13 PM

you could always supercharge it. that way there is no need to alter the exhaust system, and make new holes in the bodywork. There are also companies out there selling full supercharge kits for the R1

bitsilly - 14/6/08 at 09:17 PM

Yep, am waiting for some info on supercharging, but it is early days yet, I think that the best first step is to get the car to PDQ for a proper tune, then if that does not release a sufficient boost then take the next step.
Still nice problem to have hey!
Thanks for all the feedback gents.

marc n - 15/6/08 at 08:22 AM

would definately get car to the rollers, if you havent had it anywhere since you got it, it probably needs carbs rebalancing as well

cheers

Triggerhappy - 25/8/08 at 11:35 AM

reading these remarks i start to sway a bit about my enginechoice.

My plan has been to use 2008 Hayabusa engine but if the benefit over an R1 is less than obvious then i might reconsider...

I havenīt ordered car or engine yet but will in near future.

My car will be road registred but fast on the track is the main goal!

marc n - 25/8/08 at 03:35 PM

the comparisons made on here where against the earlier busa s
the new 08 busa is the real deal but is a lot more money than the newer r1 s 05 - 08

cheers
