F.A.O.The Mac#1 Guys
orbital - 9/7/07 at 10:09 AM

Hi There,

I was just wondering if you'd received my emails concerning the finishing of my ZR? I sent a load of photos of the various bits that need finishing (as you requested at Newark) but haven’t heard anything back yet. Just worried that they've gone into a black hole somewhere as it's been about a week and you've always responded to my other emails within a few hours.

Cheers

Dave

Cheers mate! I've asked the peeps at Mac#1 if they could finish my ZR off and get it SVA'd, as my mechanical ability is teetering on zero and I really don't want to balls anything up! Although I can polish it like a good'un! I've also just started a new job and the time I did have to "have a go" has just evaporated.

There's not loads that need doing (well I don't think so anyway). Petrol tank, seats, suspension setup and geometry and I wanted a Worx dash installed (the one in it is a bit tatty). Wouldn't mind a second opinon if your ever in my neck of the woods?

Cheers

Dave

well, why don't you forward the photos to Jos and myself, I have sent you a U2U with both mine and his emails in it! We have both completed cars and put them through SVA, so may have a decent idea as to the work is involved!

regards,
Steve

To be honest the SVA prep isn't that bad. It's pretty straight forward, especially with a few pointers.

If you've got your car to the stage in the avatar then there's nothing to worry about. Post the pictures on here too, so we can take the p*ss (in a nice way).

Emissions are the biggest concern, but by looking at your exhaust and air filter, then you must be using a Pinto. Easy job !

Head up and crack on - book your SVA now

Hi Jos,

I'll post them to you when I get home. Steve gave me your address the other day.

Cheers

It really doesnt like it needs much doing from what i can see. Should be quite easy to sort out. If you dont have time then getting Mac#1 to do it might be good plan as it could be SVA'd etc as well.

has it been running? It looks like the tank has been in before (holes in chassis?). If it goes Ok and stops then i cant imagine it would take an awful lot of work. Just depends on what mods you want doing.

orbital - 12/7/07 at 03:55 PM

Your right Darren, I don't think it will take a lot to get it finished. It was just my total lack of ability holding me back But with the help and guidance of the members on here (Worx Steve especially) I'm going to have a go myself I think. After all that's what it's all about really I guess PLus the money I save doing it myself I'll be able to put back into the car making it even better (well I hope!)

Cheers

Dave

Sounds like a great plan.

Can i suggest that you start by listing the major jobs you know it needs. Then some pics of that area and im sure some good advice will come flooding in.

When i built mine i was lucky that i passed Mac#1 every few weeks. I called in - got the next few bits i needed and took some pictures to help me along. That along with the never ending calls to Mark and Colin and i was well on my way.

i can see you tank needs to go in. Is the fuel level sender already in place? If not fit that and get the tank secured in place then you can attach the fuel lines. Ill guess the engine is running the mechanical pump. maybe a filter near tank and one before the pump and you will have the fuel system done. I got my filters from Halfords. i put the number in a post in maintenance section a couple of months back - only about £3 or 4 each. Basically the biggest inline ones i could find.

Is ignition system OK - ie does engine turn over and you have sparks at the plugs?

Are the electrics all working? You probs want new dash but it would be good to know everything works before you change that id guess.

Take your time, do each job thoroughly and correctly. Dont bodge any bits to get you going - they will come back to haunt you.

Do you have SVA manual - worth running through it to make sure the car was built with that in mind.

orbital - 12/7/07 at 04:25 PM

The car was running when I collected it (that was over 10 months ago now). I believe the fuel tank leaks. That's why it seems to have been fitted then removed. I'd like ali one, for no other reason than they look cool LoL! I'm going to tackle the fuel tank first, small steps and all that. Like you said I'm going to take my time and get it sorted, even if it kills me!

Cheers

Dave
