Some Advice.

I need to replace my mechanical pump with an electric one (its particularly required when I transplant my Zetec)

I am currently using a Weber 32/36 DGV 5A carburettor, which is what I shall also use with the Zetec (a tried and tested combination by the Banger Racing community)

I don’t currently have a return fuel line back to the fuel tank.

I have never used an electric fuel pump, so my questions may seem daft, please bear with me.

Questions:-

Some fuel pump state that they are ‘solid state’, some are not, what does this mean?

What pressure pump would I need (my engine’s are both standard)?

Do I need a return fuel line?

Does the pump need to be mounted by the tank, or can I put it in the engine bay?

I think we need to know if you plan to use carbs or throttle bodies for injection, if the later then you will need a return line back to the tank, if you plan to use bike carbs then no you don't. With the later you could go with just a megajolt for spark too which has been really robust for me. If you are doing T/B's then megasquirt will do those and spark I believe.

For a carb install any external bike pump over 600cc will do as I think the majority are the same anyway. Maybe the same for T/B's but unsure.

Think solid sate just means there no moving parts in there.

Pumps work best near the tank as they are more efficient pushing fuel although mine is up front with no problems so far.

I can recomend THIS Its a modern version of an su style pump used on the Mgb's ect

It sits in the engine bay near the carb and pulls its fuel from the tank instead of mounting near the tank and pushing the fuel.

It runs at aroun 2psi so is perfect for webers and bike carbs with out a regulator.

If you are doing it on a Locostbuilders budget then get your self a pump frrom a carbed bike of 600cc +
