I will soon have a new zetec with a Griffin power systems inlet plenum/manifold
need something to drive the injection and ignition. Ive been scared off MS by the previouse thread...whats the options ?
What puts you of the Ms, the wiring or the programing ?
omex 600 is easy to wire and then pay some one to map it.
I use the ford ecu that needs no maping but a tad more wiring
mine
Emerald ECU works for me, easy to get running and good back up although I did have to wait awhile before they could set it up on the rolling road. Well worth the wait
Dont let my experience scare you off of MS totally. Its a very diverse system, you just need one built for your exact application rather than buying an unknown configuration.
i wont get have a standard ecu with this engine...
Im not going to be trying to squeeze the last ounce out of the engine so im looking for a reasonably inexpensive system thats easy to sort out cause
im a petrol injection virgin...
I was advised to go with omex 600 but i dont want loads of features i wont need
If the Griffin unit will take a standard Ford throttle body, then by far the cheapest and easiest solution would be to buy a second hand Ford ECU and
engine loom, and, if you need it, ask for Big Wasa's help in wiring it up, I believe he has helped others. The Ford unit will provide decent
power and excellent reliabilty plus smooth running.
Otherwise, next up price wise is Megasquirt, then after that it's Omex, Emerald etc.
Im looking through ebay..whats the best/latest donor to get the bits to use the standard ford system and what is required. i dint think i get anything
with this new crate engine

if you are using griffin system and can incorperate ford MAF then as said above cant get cheaper than using a standard £50 ford ECU, only thing need
to really incorperate all the ford matching sensors, injectors etc. I was also scared off from MS as while cheaper i couldnt get my head round all the
potential problems/maping and finaly went for a secondhand emerald ECU as they are local for mapping.
But you might be beter if can get a Omex ECU as i thought they may have been what the Griffin system initially came with so a base map should be
available to get you running and on the road, as its worth thinking if no base map available for your setup you also need to budget for £300 of RR
mapping.

i know very little about petrol engines but my job is commissioning large 2,000 KW 20 cylinder diesel engines with ecu control sytems...however...this
seems more complicated to me. I think im going to have a go though.
so its a post 96 sierra 2.0L..will a mondeo work ?

big_wasa
thanks for u2u
You should be able to use any 2.0 zetec manual ecu.
Mondeo, Focus, Couger ect
early pre pats are rare.
You do NOT want a sierra ecu !
ok
cheers
Hi Big_Wasa, apologies for the hijack but is the ecu off an mondy auto no good, I'm not using it but was thinking of flogging it in the new year
with all the transponder etc.
Cheers
Rich
Ive never done one but I would say not.
I am not sure on what levell that ecu interacts with the the gearbox but there are safty interupts that need wiring up.
That said it could well be worth somthing to some one, lost keys ect.
So when you use the standard ecu do you bypass the immobiliser or just tape the key to the receiver behind the dash?
