Right i am rattling my brain as to what i do and do not need for my tank, a freind of mine is able to make me one at work out of 3mm ali so ive drawn
up my sizes and shape but know i need to make sure what i need to also be attached to the tank. I am running a 1.6 ford pinto on standard webber carbs
but will eventualy upgrade to a duratec at a later date. So at my guess do i currently need just a breather hose feed to a non return valve and a fuel
feed to a low pressure pump then onto the carbs ?
Also what can i do know to ready the tank for upgrades to suit the duratec ie threaded inserts for return feed that will be blanked off.
Any help greatly appreciated as i feel ive forgotten some bits.
I'd say you need a swirl pot or sump for the draw-off, a vent at the top and a return. Plus a filler and perhaps a sender. I fitted a Golf GTi HP fuel pump, filter and swirl pot to my existing fuel system which is fed b a LP pump from the tank.
How about fitting it up ready for an intank pump? Much much neater than a separate swirl pot etc for the EFI setup. You could also have a takeoff for the carbs that could be later blanked.
After reading a few other older posts im intrested in the in tank bike fuel pump as some have swirl pots build in or have i read it wrong as save
having a return fuel feed. If it is correct can anyone point out which pumps and also which bike carbs to suit a simple conversion from my weber carbs
to bike carbs for the 1.6 pinto as this may savehassle with swirl pots at a later date.
I currently only have the engine and mechanical pump. The tank is currently in the design stages as need these final detail sorting before it is to be
made. So ill need a suitable fuel pump
Sender for fuel guage
I have a filler hose but need ideas best for fuel line ie copper or rubber 8 or 10mm ?
fuel filter.
Also am i right in thinking if i do go bike carbs i will not need a fuel pressure regulator if i use a bike fuel pump?
Sorry for all the questions id just rather get it all right on paper before spending.
thank you all for any infomation
:cliftyhanger thats an idea i had in my mind but what pump could i use and wouldnt it need regulating down as arent EFI systems high pressure ?
If you fit an intank setup I would go like this.
Get an intank fuel pump off a Landrover to start with, one of these
Part number is PRC7020, designed for SU carbs which would suit your current pinto setup.
Then when you want to go over to injection its a simple matter of swapping that out for and injection one!

Does this have the sender unit as well as have been looking at similar today on ebay.
Does anyone know if the mx5 unit works as this has a sender ect. If so can i use a fuel regulater to set the pressure to suit carb ect.
The mx5 unit looks like my best bet. It is like the landrover unit but it also has a fuel sender incorporated.
Pick them up for around £20 via ebay and all i will need is a pressure regulator to alter the pressure to suit bike carbs or future upgrades.
