Hi everyone,
just a bit of background.... I have an F27 fitted with a blacktop 2.0 zetec, on GSXR 1000 TBs. Currently running a megasquirt ECU. I have recently
changed the original silvertop engine to the current blacktop, which has resulted in the car running poorly, and needs a re-tune.
Whilst pulling the car apart, i have noticed how badly the wiring has been done, it looks a right mess, and is incredibly difficult to understand
which wires are required and which wires aren't.
Want I would like to know is, how easy would it be to pull out all of the wiring and start again with a new ECU, and something that I could learn how
to tune myself? What ECUs would you recommend?
I also have limited knowledge of the Megasquirt system that is fitted.
Any advice would be great.
thanks,
Liam
I found the megasquirt a great ECU to learn on.
A good start would be here
I'm using an emerald K6 myself, brilliant bit of kit and the after sales support from them is second to none. They can supply a generic 4 cylinder loom for the engine if you want too - looks very neat
thanks for you replies. I am just looking for something that will tidy up the mess that is currently my loom! and also something I could tune
myself.
Is the software/cable easily available for the MS ECU?
Would i need to know which MS ECU I have, or do they all use the same cable and software?
MS ECU's can be upgraded link. Your best bet would be to email
Extra EFI, they are very helpful.
Without doubt go for Nodiz. U2u if you need details

Your megasquirt ECU will easily do the job. I have one on my 200 bhp duratec and it runs great.
The software is readily available to download and simple to learn. There is simply loads of documentation on the web.
I initially had mine professionally mapped but then a change of throttle bodies made me go and learn the software. Had my wife calling out efr numbers
at different speeds and we stopped and mapped it at the road side.

Does NoDiz run injection? I thought it was only ignition.
Stick with what you have, you can get pre-made looms for megasquirt so take away complexity and remapping.
My car runs a very early version, makes good power what's not to like?
Have a chat with Dale. He is a member on here.
http://baileyperformance.co.uk/
I'm sure he can help with a new/modified loom for your megasquirt and all your tuning needs.
He did a great job for me on my supercharged mx5
second for speaking to Dale at bailyperformance. He will probably be willing to modify what you have if needed etc. extraefi from my experience only
do work on MSs that they have supplied, but Phil is very helpful.
Not sure if the original OP has a MS yet or is looking to get one.
I have MS1 extra running my RV8 with bike throttle bodies, dale mapped it and added a few bits to the MS.
I don't recommend http://www.megasquirtuk.co.uk/ he doesn't understand what the boards are doing and just follows the manual. I
couldn't get me head around the the wiring diagram and to save time sent my second hand MS off to him.. it came back wrong (as the manual is
wrong, but I pointed out that it was, assuming they would know how it should work)
Phil - extraefi saw a pic of my wired up board and pointed out it was wrong, luckily! - megasquirtuk sorted it after I posted it back, but what I
should have done was spoken to Dale before anything as he would have added the extra wiring too.. (I thought he was just a mapper) I strongly
recommend speaking to Dale and or Phil depending on where are you are with your project and what you have.
I travelled 160 miles to use bailyperformance and stayed 2 nights in a bnb, every penny worth it for Dale to do the work.
