Right, I might be being a but thick here, but I've just taken delivery of a brand new Pipercross sausage air filter and can't tell if I need to oil it up before use. I remember having a foam filter on an old car of mine years ago, and that when you washed it you sprayed on some dirt retaining oil. Sure enough, on the instructions with this new filter it tells you how to wash and oil up whenever required. But there is no mention if it's needed prior to fitting from new. It doesn't feel oily at all. I can only think it is not necessary as there is no instruction to do so.

So, anyone know the real answer? I don't have the oil, so it's not an option to just give it a squiz.

The instructions that came with my Pipercross also just say about oiling it after you have washed it, I didn't oil it when first fitted. But you might want to oil it if you drive in a flour mill or similar
