Megasuirt Novice - advice please
Paul (Notts) - 27/2/06 at 08:12 PM

Ok ..

untill two days ago I new next to nothing about mega squirt, but have been looking into it as a possibillity for my RV8.

The original plan was to fit a new manifold and big carb kit costing £600 approx. But as I already have the old injection manifold and chamber ( 3.5 airflow meter type ) what would I need to get in order to run the fuel injection..

megasuirt kit - which version
relay board kit
wires
edis

What is EDIS ( some thing to do with ignition)

The EDIS module is the Electronic Distributorless Ignition System.
It's the standard early 90's Ford ignition system.

With the V8 you'd need an EDIS 8, only available in the US AFAIK...

OK - I'll answer up to the limit of my knowledge.

EDIS - Electronic Distributorless Ignition System.

If you chose the correct Megasquirt version you don't need an Edis at all.

Right - I'll butt out now. Over to someone who knows better.

Easier option than using an EDIS is to get a V8 coilpack and mount 3 extra VB921s on the V3 board. This will give you wasted spark.

As mentioned in an another thread, Bill Shurvinton will be able to supply everything you need (ready built with harness if necessary)

Just beacuse it may prove easier, how much would a complete box of bits be to get an 1800 cvh up and running? Otherwise I'm stuck with finding some other bits that'll do the job.

Major Stare - 27/2/06 at 09:54 PM

Via Bill, it cost me just under £130.00 for a MegaSquirt, assembled & ready to go and Ford EDIS with everthing including toothed wheel.

Unless you want to go Megajolt ?

I've already got a pair of 40 dell'orto's, but will have to make a manifold to fit them, but less hassle/cheaper than buying tb's. I'm trying to do everything the cheapest way poss to get on the road. Only prob is, the engine came with a weird black box with lots of bridged wires on it. I've got no idea how to wire it up, or if it actully works properly. And can't fit a dizzy either. The cam doesn't have the required slot in it.

You would need a MegaJolt then if your going with carbs and an EDIS kit.

Is the engine fitted?

DIY Si - 27/2/06 at 10:08 PM

Nope. Just sat on the base board awaitng some mounts. Which I was supposed to makew today, but couldn't be bothered. Bit chilly out in the garage today.
