Bike Carb ID
Ratters - 29/7/06 at 11:57 AM

Hello.

I have a set of bike carbs but can anyone ID them for me please??

& what sort of cable is best/easiest to use for the throttle??

Thank you.

They look identical to mine; ZX9 standard setup.
Other bikes probably use that setup too but I've only 2 ZX9s to compare them to!
As standard the bike uses 2 cables (one to open the throttles, one to close). I just used one throttle cable from the bike and a return spring to help close the throttles (I did try just the one cable but the throttles would not close nowhere fast enough.)

Thanks for the help

I thought I'd have a go at fitting them & they went on OK. It seems to run ok - only took it around the block a few times - but the idle seems high even though the stop is screwed right out. Could it be running lean at idle? It looks like the idle mixture is underneath the carbs - am I right?

& where would be the best place to get filters or trumpets please?? A local bike breakers or new??

Sorry for all the questions

Don't know about the adjustment - sorry!

As for filters, I used a pipercross Px600 sausage filter with the backplate cut out to fit the existing plastic trumpets and surround.

There are some trumpets on ebay at the moment

They are ticking over nicely now. Just needed a bit of fine tuning with the balance of them - thanks Robocog. Surprising what you can learn just by messing isn't it

Just got a bit of a water leak where the manifold bolts to the head now

That's a great link. Thanks.

Must say I've been using the car everyday for work & I'm more than happy with them Even the fuel comsumption doesn't seem too bad A mate is going to check them over one evening this week on an analyser until I can get it booked on the rollers.

They are on a 1700 x-flow in a Mk1 Escort.

I got the same carbs as this, ZX6R, though looks 99% the same. Manifold is also from Boggs..

Anyway, I noticed that your carbs also had the main air jet blocked off..mine was also blocked off. Did you find it running too rich afterwards or was it ok?

Hi no my carbs are spoton boggs set them up on there r/ road and blocked like yours my carbs are zx9r

OK..so blocking them is ok...phew. I tried pulling them out and it is a bummer cos it is on really tight. Pulled them with a pair of pliers only to flatten the rivet ends.

I got another set,,CBR600 F3 carbs which is brand new, but the center two carbs are 3mm off so I cannot attach it to the manifold which was made for the ZX6R carbs. Maybe I could use longer rubber joints?...
