copper pipes

i was wondering how i could make a ridge on the copper fuel pipe to stop the rubber pipe being blown off.
i got some olives and an 8mm male/female union, cut a slot in the female nut (took 1 side of the hex out) to slide over the side of the pipe, insert olive, tighten union, remove union, slide nut off of pipe and bingo
blue peter badge please

i tried that, and it didn;t tighten up correctly, it spread the nut.

i ended up using the fitting "as is", then cutting the nut off with a dremel afterwards.

another option is to get a steel ball bearing, and hit it into the end of the pipe to flare it.

Or you could get a solder ring fitting and put it on.
