Right then, all this ecu stuff is a bit foreign to me as I grew up on a diet of SU's and dizzys. Can someone tell me what sensible options I have
when it comes to fuelling and sparking a V6? Will megasquirt handle this without much bother? I know there's a ford 6 cylinder spark thingy, the
name of which has escaped me at the moment, so I know that bit can be done. Ideally I'm after something that is fairly easy to sort out, so
megasquirt shouldn't be a problem to figure out and get set up. What other options are there? I don't necessarily need a full plug and play
install, but I don't want to be building the ecu from scratch either.
Oh, the engine will be an Alfa V6 running on triumph throttle bodies, so nothing fiddly like Vtec switching is required. Although the future potential
to run a supercharger without too much modification would be a distinct advantage.
PS, a budget of 10p would be preferred!

I picked megasquirt and an Edis to run my V6 - has to be the cheapest way of doing it as far as I can tell .
I bought mine fully built as electronics really isnt my `thing`
EDIS, that's the name of the spark thingy! Right, off to the Bay of E.
Claire, where did you get yours from? And if you don't mind me asking, how much was it?
Oh, just noticed that some of the Alfa V6's run coil on plug. Does this complicate things at all? Or does it make things a bit simpler?
I originally bought one from Mtech (bunch of total cowboys - avoid like the plague) , Bill Shurvington supplied the one I`m actually using , along
with an Lc1 wideband lambda setup .
Not too sure about the cost as I still need to sort that out .......

A bit , yeah - the ECU would need to be built with 6 coil drivers AFAIK
You could just run an EDIS6 , with a coilpack from a 6 cylinder ford, you would just need to sort the HT leads then,
personally i would run an EDIS rather than coil drivers built into the megasquirt

Righto, I think the EDIS set up looks a bit simpler. Would it not be possible to run a pair of coils from each driver on the ecu? Sorting out some HT leads shouldn't be too much bother either way though.
Yeah, go with edis, much simpler and less liable to go wrong.
These guys will sort you out with everything you need ready built: http://www.extraefi.co.uk/

How much??!!
Could also run the VEMS, it supports COP(coil on plug) up to 8 cylinders or 16 cylinder wasted spark without the need for EDIS. Also 2 channel
wideband lambda with builtin driver, so no seperate LC-1 needed. And a bunch of other features.

.....Mazda caps and Ford coil plugs......cost about £120 :
Less than half the price of a set of Vauxhall leads for a V6 Omega!
I've clearly led a sheltered life running minis!! I used to get upset at paying more than £20 for a set of 5!

Um...........with a V6 and coil-on-plug you would have 6 coils , so you would need six coil drivers.....
EDIS is soooooooooo much simpler
Can you run wasted spark on this engine?
It will depend on the firing sequence and whether the pistons reach tdc at the same time, I have a feeling that with the Alfa you cannot use wasted
spark but I could be wrong. Also with the EDIS6 that presumeably is set for the angle of the Ford V6 and the Alfa MAY be different so timing with that
may be an issue. Just my thoughts.
I would also avoid edis, purely from the "why use 2 boxes when 1 will do" point of view.
I have run many engines on aftermarket ecu's, and none have ever used anything other then built in drivers for everything.
