That looks really good for the money. I've got a Toad which was considerably more expensive. I wouldn't think that either are "Thatcham Approved" unless fitted professionally. The Toad definitely isn't

It says it will search for the transponder for 30 seconds after door open. Assuming it is supposed to work off a cabin light circuit, do you think it
would work if you wired to the accessory position on the ignition key?

Hmmm not sure about the searching after the door is open.
i think the toad version also has that from what i've read on here you just leave it unwired
so hopefuly it's also triggered from the ignition
just had a think, if say your cabin light circuits fuse was to blow it must still un-arm from the ignition

That makes sense.
It'll be wired to the door switch that controls the light. But its a earth switch so if the fuse blows on the interior light the switch still
switches and still works for the alarm....
Not so helpful on a car with no doors i'm afraid.
Nothing to stop you from wiring to the key switch tho - or perhaps having a start button in the car or something. Perhaps you could have a pressure sensor on the seat!
i've wired mine into the battery master switch. on turing the switch the immobiliser roams for around 30secs. not the greatest range on the sensor loop though and key has to be right in the side of my pocket to be picked up. just a bit worried as now not using a key i have no steering lock so car could get towed away.

Excellent piece of kit and the service and help from them is fantastic.
I havent got a steering lock either and hadnt considered it being towed! 
Ill have to get a crook lock or summit.....
I got a Meta 357V2 off ebay for £100 brand new, that's less than half what the bike shops sell them for. Cat1 insurance friendly and for a
motorcycle so doesn't have all the unwanted features of a car alarm. Works superb and is very loud. Being CAT 1 it has all black wires so if some
scroat got at the wiring as it can be a bit vulnerable in a 7 type car it is not clear which wire does what.
I know £100 is not very locost but I want to protect my investment as much as possible and also wanted something reliable. It would really wind me up
if I got stuck somewhere because a cheapo immobiliser went faulty. I know even the most expensive electrical items can go faulty but at least it may
lessen the chances.

Don't worry about the door switch, just leave the wire off. They "search" for the fob signal for 30 seconds or so after either the door
opens or the ignition switches on. Thats how most work anyway.

Just thought i'd update on this.
i fitted the maplins imobi and you're right the door switch isn't needed, it will search from the ignition being turned on.
all the trace wires are black just like any thatcham imobi.
hopefuly it won't let me down like most other stuff i've bought from maplins Hmmm!

My Maplins immobiliser arrived today.
All the wires are black.
It might be a stupid question, but did you just use a multimeter to work out what connects to what?
