Testing a dizzy cap

Hi can someone please explain if its possible how to test a dizzy cap mine is cracked my engine is not running yet and I need to know if it will work in its current condition or else I must wire up the ECU with a coil pack.

For what a cap costs is it worth messing about with if you know its cracked? You may get it running by painting over the cracks with nail varnish as a temporary measure.

To test the cap, have a close look at it and if the contacts are burnt or its got any cracks its knakered.
