evening all
well, everything is back together on the indy and so my many threads asking for help about why i can get it started have only just begun
right, so went to start it and its all fine when the ignition is on, apart from the rev counter is reading about 5k (didnt see that before i tried to
start it) so tried to start it and it clicked, as if engaging, then nothing.
so, am i right in thinking if got something funny with my coil/dizzy if the rev counter is messing around?
what i think it may be is the amplifier in the pinto system as i have bypassed this for the new coil/dizzy, im thinking this may be wrong??
many thanks for all help.
ill get a diagram up shortly.

Sounds like your starter has jammed or your battery is flat, something draining it?
Just a thought...
Rich
nope, guage says its ok, i have put it on charge, not sure about the starter, ill go check!
Aye, try rocking the car back and forth whilst in gear, may shift it...
Rich
ok will do, anyone know anything about these amplifier thingys???
Ignition amps are a right bastard, try and find one you know deffinitly works and swap them to test. My old 205 had the ignition amp fail (Which the
the net informed me was a common problem, and so I guessed it was my problem and it was), The Peugeot service desk told me the same and that it
wasn't worth getting a new one, in the end I went to a scrappy and of about 25 205s and 306s, only 1 still had an ignition amp which when plugged
in and with the help of jump leads (I'd killed the battery the week before trying to solve the problem of it not firing) it started fine, but
that incident is the push that lead me to a brand new car.
The weird thing is that people are always going on about french build quality being bad and how good german electrics are but the only part of my car
that died was German.
Sounds like a flat battery, loose battery terminal or poor/non-existant earth to the engine/starter or from the battery - the rev counter is a secondary thing - get it cranking over first then worry about why the tacho is up the creek!
thanks for the replys chaps, i have emailed h&h and for the record their ingnition does not use the pinto's amplifier,
im goin to have a better look this afternoon.
also, must recomend h&h, very nice reply 2 hours after i sent them an email at 5:30!
guys thanks for the replys and help, charged the battery over night, cleaned the terminals, fired up first time!!!!! absolutely chuffed,
so, now im just going over everything again, and the ignition timing is way out but its much nicer to be 'tuning' than fixing!
so, thanks again for the tips.
