Cracked body work
jono2020 - 19/8/10 at 08:30 PM

On my bonnet it has cracked from where I have taken it off. Does anyone know a way of repairing it without getting a new bonnet?

Could you post a picture of it? I assume it's fibreglass? If so, repair shouldn't be too difficult.

Have repaired and gel coated a few now

How bad/big is the crack and where is it on the bonnet ?

it is at the front in the middle. Its just from where someone has not been careful taking the bonnet off and cracked about 15mm

To stop the crack spreading further you will need to drill a hole at the end of the crack, just through the gel coat (not all the way through the bonnet)
Use a drill just slightly bigger than the thickness of the crack
Either use a blunt drill or use a normal drill and run it in reverse

Scrape along the crack with a sharp edge until a slight 'V' is formed
Mix up some coloured gel coat with some MEKP Hardener and some Wax solution
Use a mixture of 2% by volume for each of these
Apply the mixture with a match stick or similar
Leave to Harden before flatting and final polishing up

You can get away without using the wax solution but you will need to exclude the Air by using selotape or similar

I buy my supplies from CFS
