I need to purchase an ECU for this engine and I know about the 100ohm resistor that needs to be fitted in the loom.
Is the resistor for the emobiliser built into the ECU.
I was thinking of getting an emobiliser from the states to negate the need to buy the full lock set and ECU.
Am I right in my thinking.
P.S. I have already purchased a Power Commander.
Brad.
my understanding is that the U.S ones didnt have immobilisers, so seen as you need an ecu, get one from the states and you wont need to bother with the 100ohm resistor, which is normally fitted in the ignition barrel
So, if I get one from the UK, I need to fit the resistor so that I can do without buying the lock set.
If I get one from the States I don't have to fit the resistor..
Sorry, the electrical side of cars is not one of my strong points.
Brad.
given the cost of a resistor £0.12p i woudl get the cheapest you can from anywhere.
Its not hard to fit the resistor so just buy cheap....
yeah you wont need to get the lock set, just wire a 100ohm resistor, normaly on the grey wire that leads to where the barrel would be.
well it was grey on the zx12r anyway
that way it fools the ecu is using the original key etc

Mine had an american ecu, but still needed the resistor.
Can't say for sure on the ZX10R, but on the ZZR1400 if there is no separate immobiliser fitted it's a 100 ohm resistor in the grey wire, but
if it has the separate immobiliser it's still just a 100ohm resistor but in the blue wire which goes to the immobiliser - it's the same pin
on the ecu as the grey wire on the non-immobilised version if you follow me.
Kawasaki are usually pretty consistant with their loom colours so would expect it to be the same on the ZX10R

Brad
I have an American loom & ECU I just needed the 100ohm resistor.
they way I understod you couldn't just use the resistor with the English set up
i still have most of the loom & ECU from an 05 engine, but I think yours maybe different
Try giving Malc a ring at yorkshire engines, I'm sure he'll be able to help
Andy
I just wanted to make sure that if I bought the UK ecu and saving a few quid , that it wouldn't be false economy and then have to buy the US
type.
Has anyone got Malcs number.
Brad.

Malc has just informed me that a UK ECU wont work with a 100ohm resistor. It would need decoding for another coded key.
So it's a US ecu then.
What nice man he is.
Thanks Malc.
Malc has helped me time and time again with me ZX10R woes.
A very decent chap !
