Hi can anyone tell me if 1/ if there is a simple wiring diagram for indicators/hazards? 2. Does a Sierra wiring loom use a single flasher relat unit
(19FL) for both ind and hazards? 3. If so does it also have one/two flasher units (little aluminium can type thingys) ? My hazard warning switch
illuminates, steady, but no lighting of any external indicator lights when operating in either indicate or hazard mode.
The relay is the 3 pin type marked 49. 49a and 31.
Picked up a reasonably priced RH Exmo , took it for MOT last week , virtually nothing to do to it just a few niggly things like this, got this to sort
out and a steering rack gaiter to do plus refit seats and harnasses job done
31 - Earth
49 - +12V
49a - Indicator Feed
A Sierra uses a single flasher relay, the fairly complex hazard switch handles the circuits and power feed to the relay.
Here's the bit from my wiring that handles indicator and hazard lights. My car's wiring is based on a Mk2 Escort , but the Sierra is pretty
similar afaik.
I've got a hazard switch from a Land Rover, the Ford ones have merged 49 and 30b, I'm connecting the two anyway.
The system works like this:
In normal operation a switched +12v is fed to the flasher relay. The relay's 49a feed runs to the indicator stalk and the stalk connects the
indicator feed to either the left or right circuit.
In hazard operation the hazard switch connects a continuous +12v to the flasher relay (it needs to work without the ignition switched on) and connects
the 49a feed to both left and right circuits. Also the integrated hazard light obviously needs an earth connection to function (31).
I've used two diodes to create a single dash indicator light. I probably could have used the earth connection on the flasher relay, but I'm
not sure if that would work (now I think of it again, it probably would work).

Thanks for the reply, I noticed no audible clicking when I was tracing wires earlier so I've assumed the flasher relay is U/S and bought an electronic unit to replace it rather than the old bi-metallic thing. It may save me having to do it at some time in the future should I decide to change to LED indicators as well. Fingers crossed that may sort out 2 "fails" and I can cross them off the list then ;-)
