lift pump and high pressure pump

Hi guys I want power up my lift pump and high pressure pump from the ecu feed. Is there a way I can switch the lift pump first to start filling swirl pot before other pump comes on? Any ideas welcome thanks

simple answer is that you dont need to do that.

it should work like this.

line from the fuel tank into the lift pump out of the lift pump into the swirl pot.

you then have a line from the swirl pot that goes to the high pressure pump which goes to the fuel rail.

the return from the fuel pump then goes back to the swirl pot.

then finally there is a return from the very top of the swirl pot that goes back to the tank.


if it is setup like that the swirl pot will always be full.

if you take the return from the fuel rail back to the fuel tank rather than the swirl pot then you run the risk of emptying the swirl pot if the lift pump isnt up to the job.

Your ecu can switch the pumps via a relay. You should be doing this anyway.
If your using a swirlpot you dont need to worry about the lift pump starting first. You can prime it for the first time by rolling the ignition on and of a few times.

Yes warren the ECU is switching via a relay, Just worried about high pressure pump on first start when swirl pot is empty. I did not have a swirl pot before just putting one in now.

it will be fine. as long as the return from the fuel rail goes back to the swirl pot it will fill up in a few seconds. high pressure pumps have to run dry for a long time before they burn out.
