can anyone shed any light on how i wire my start switch to light up? it works to start the engine but no light?
You can either take a feed from the ilumination circuit, of take a feed from the ign live going to the switch ??

yeah cheers mate i know that but want to know which pins to wire it to.
12v in to pin1 12v out to starter solenoid pin2 then ignition live or side lamp feed to one lamp connection and earth the other if no illumination reverse lamp wires as its a diode and only flows one way round hope it makes sense to you

Got my 'Start' switch today. Just had a look in the Farnell catalogue at the actual switch block.

Its only rated to 6A. I am thinking a relay might be needed??

I only know what Farnells say. Its definately the right block, and they (Farnell) arent usually wrong. But that is the current rating for AC, which
IIRC is actually higher than the DC rating...
No doubt it will work without a relay, however the life of the switch will be seriously lowered.

Definitely do not connect without a relay. It is only a microswitch after all
*edit* Thinking about it again, the switch will only be closing a solenoid which can only be a few amps (less than 6A anyway) so it should be fine.

The start switch is fine without relay. Works great on my pinto. Defo rated higher than 6A.
For illumination, i just connected all centre + pins together and to the side light =ve. All -ve centre pins together and to chassis. Very easy and
very neat.
If a switch does not illuminate even after correct wiring it could be that the LED has become detached after transit. Easy to open up, push bulb back
into holder. Ive had 2 like that. No need to return to supplier.
You can always connect the led to the alternator light so that it lights up when you turn the ignition on and goes out when the engine has started.

I would always use a relay. Just pick up a handful every time you go to a scrap yard, they always come in handy for something or other

Well here is my solution. For those who cant be bothered to work it out themselves. The colours on your loom may not match mine, but you get the
idea...
The numbers in brackets are the cable cross sections. START is the start button...
It should work! If anyone can see a problem with it, then shout...
