On the Rascal alternator I have, there is an insulated M8 stud and a 13mm nut for take off to the battery (via starter if you want). There are two
6mm spade terminals in a T shape in a recess. Top one IG, and upright marked L. I use L for ignition light.

I. O. U. 1 beer
thanks a lot
Hold up!!
doesnt the alt have to go to earth somewhere ?.
unless it earths thru the block! i dunno...
The insulated M8 terminal is the positive to battery pos. Depending on manufacturer usualy labeled A, BAT, B, B+, 51, or 30.
Ignition lamp usualy runs off a terminal labeled D, L, WL, I 61.
Most alternators earth through the casing into the block but if there is an earth wire it would be labeled B-, D-, E, G, GRD, M-, 31 or 31- according
to my crib sheet.
