Has anyone used an electronic circuit to mislead the ECU when removing the EXup valve and motor in the R1?
I have heard people just leave the control unit connected and hide it somewhere out of the way.

I think it just shows an error code on the R1 clocks when you disconnect.
I kept the exup motor under the dash, as I kept the clocks.
Do a search I'm sure someone has done it on the forum.
I remember someone had a little box called an exup ghost, don’t know if it was a home made job but there was a photo on here a while back!

hi mate you can make up a fool circuit with relays etc
Ive never got on well with relays others swear by them
or just hide it somewhere and leave it on
if you disconnect and do noubt youll get an error code with your rev counter jumping all the time
I designed a simple circuit to do this which has been used by a couple of guys on here (as well as myself). It should just cost a few pence to make

BTW there's an extra resistor on my little veroboard cct to stop the empty tank error code.....

I bought one of these for my ZX10r from www.techtwentytwo.com,servo valve eliminator,they do them for the R1's,not very locost though

What does the EXUP do? Why do you want to remove it? Is it some kind of EGR valve, or valve that circulates fresh air to the exhaust ports?
The exup valve restricts the exhaust,by using a servo and a flap at the base of the exhaust headers,its this flap that restricts the exhaust gas
leaving the engine,by doing this and sending a signal to the ECU,ajusting the fueling and ignition timing,its suppose to improve torque in the low to
mid range,its a bit contentious if it realy does a great deal,most of the race bikes and side car races remove them,so thats good enough for me

oh ... there you go .. i learnt something new today. Yeah a bit of back pressure does increase low-end torque. I would recon that the Exup valve would be a load of rubbish without the stock exhaust system then, because the amount of back-pressure needs to be very finely tuned to the specific exhaust system.

Good luck with it matey - If you search back for "EXUP" from about a year ago you'll probably find the initial saga of the circuit -
which suggested that different era R1s had slightly different EXUP servo drivers, so Smart51 (on here) ended up doing some development work to get his
going after Jimgiblett(on here), his worked fine straight out the box! Mine has worked just fine so far - I'll have to 'pot' it soon
(probably use hot melt glue) - if it's gonna fail, that's when it'll happen!
