I have fitted an alternator off a 2.0DOHC on my Zetec but am concerned about the wiring as the warning light stays on.
it has the following connections
W
D+
B+
Now B+ is pretty obvious as it is larger and will be for battery live.
I have fitted the warning light to W and the other thick wire to D+.
I am reluctant to swap them in case I do some damage that I haven't already done.
Can anyone confirm if I have them the right way around. If so I guess the alternator is shot, which would be annoying as I paid good money for it.
Thanks,
Steve
IIRC the W is the output for an auto choke, which you can just leave disconnected.
The D+ should be connected to the warning light ciruit.
B+ should be the battery feed.
David
as below.
B+ +ve battery (12 V)
B- -ve battery (0 V)
D+ igntion lamp
W tacho signal
I would have queried the w = choke but seems that is correct too.
That's great thanks for the info. No wonder the light stays on, and it might explain why the battery has gone flat!!
So, as I have 2 large red wires and the smaller wire for the warning lamp, should I connect both red wires to B+ or leave one unconnected.
Obviously the smaller wire can be swapped to D+.
Connect both of the battery wires to the B+ terminal. Doesnt make any difference, they are connected in the loom anyway.

Thanks Flak.
I just hope I haven't blown the diode running it connected up wrongly.
