Alternator which one (not denso)
Trev Borg - 7/4/07 at 08:09 PM

Ok here we go.

I need a alternator to squeese past the front suspension mounts.

I know that everyone say go for the nipon denso ones fron the rascal or charade, but how big are they?

Anyone got any dimensions ?

I have plenty of room further back, so i was thinking of making a shaft to fit and installing further back.

Until I saw one if these.

This looks like i might be able to squeese the front bit past the suspension but keep the chucky bit behind.

Does anyone know how big these are.

That looks like one from a diesel it has the vacuum pump on the end of the shaft.I have one on my rover that looks the same and it is a fair bit larger than a Denso alternator.

Yep it is from a diesel.

HONDA Accord 2.0 TDi CF1 95-98
HONDA Civic 2.0 Diesel Turbo MC3 98-01
LAND ROVER Freelander 2.0 Diesel Turbo 97-01
ROVER 220 2.0 SDi Diesel Turbo 95-00
ROVER 620 2.0 Diesel 95-98
ROVER 620 2.0 SDi Diesel Turbo 95-99

as long as its not huge, it might fit, cos the vacuum pump might fit past the upright.

Mine measures about the same plus the pump is roughly 60mm square and 60mm long from the back of the pulley to the front face of the alternator, the pulley is also about 60mm dia.

Thanks for the info, i'll take a look in the morning to see if it will fit

Had a bit of a measure, and i'm pretty sure that nothing will be small enough.

So i think my options are either mount one slightly further back and somehow get a shaft extension.

or face it backwards.
So, is there any problems associated with facing it backwards?

The armature and brushes would be worn in one direction ?

I assume the direction does not alter the output ?

It there any engines that have an alternator facing the wrong way?
