flasher relay identification
jabbahutt - 2/11/07 at 02:06 PM

Yep it's electrical idot again I'm afraid.

I removed all the original relays etc from the donor when it was stripped. i thought then I'd be able to use the original flasher unit.

Going from the Vicky Green loom diagram there are three wires gong to the flasher unit so I assumed (probably wrongly) to look for a unit with three connectors. would the flasher unit of been located with the relays on the donor?

All the units, relays etc have 4. How do identify a flasher unit from all the other relays as they all look the same just slightly different sizes and colours, and if my original had 4 pins how do you know which one to connect which wire to as I must admit I haven't a clue.

Any help much appreciated.

Thanks
Nigel

The flasher unit in the sierra is under the dash somewhere near the steering column - I missed it from my donor too!

It is not with the other relays under the bonnet.

Cheers

I fitted a new one from halfords. Easy to recognise as i wrote "flasher" on it.

Your not just a pretty face Darren

However I feel you may just be missing the point a little - he doesn't have the advantage of taking out of a new package which also has the word 'Flasher' printed on it

Thanks for your help, yep I missed the original on the donor, never mind.

so would I be correct to assume from the above link then that a flasher unit is also a relay as I've read threads here advising to use a relay in conjunction with the flasher unit.

Is it a relay as well or do I need a seperate relay. The vicky Green just so the three swires with to flasher unit on which I assumed meant it didn't need one.

Thanks for the help anyway it's much appreciated and it would be great if the relays etc in Halfords had it's use on the side in big letters for fools like me top idea

look for numbers stamped on the base of the relay, sierra type flasher relays have 49, 49a and 31 stamped on them, whereas a 'normal' relay will have 30,85,86,87 (and maybe either 87a or 87b)
