Hi all has anyone got contact details for flat pack chassis components that I can buy please.
I am looking for mx5 based and the standard version.
While I'm here what does everyone recommend mx5 version or the standard

I don't know of an 'off the shelf' MX5 flat pack. There are a few kits with ready-built chassis that are designed for an MX5 donor
(Roadrunner SR2 springs to mind). Or a standard chassis can be 'tweaked' for an MX5 donor?
Talon will do an MX5 kit if you ask him. There aren't a lot of differences but it's best to get them incorporated from the start.
He can also make a replacement diff casing for the Mazda diff that allows it to be hard mounted in exactly the same way as the Sierra diff. He's
posted about it on the Haynes Roadster forum as there has been quite a bit of discussion from members about the most feasible way of securing the
Mazda diff.
not the best day to look on the Haynes forum for feedback about Talon! But, current complaints aside, I do believe he has got a fairly good rep at
being a good producer of bits and pieces. On the whole I've seen plenty of good feedback about him and his work.
Matt - depends what donor car you can get! From reading a fair few build threads on the Haynes forum it seems to me that Sierra based build gives less
grief- the diff mounting for the MX5 looks like it throws up problems - and, although don't quote me on it as I may be wrong, I think there are
various problems to iron out with using MX5 front hubs as well...
I have done quite a bit of research and would advocate the MX5 route
The engines are pretty good and can be made to put out a lot more bhp if required without breaking (Mini supercharger etc)
Though Mazda parts new from the dealer are more expensive than Ford it is the other way round for 2nd hand parts.
The engines are short so do not require a special sump
The engine, cluctch, belhousing, flywheel and gearbox are taken complete, no need to have to adapt and buy bits from oter cars to make them work
together
The fuel injection, ignition and ECUs can be taken complete from the donor reducing the build cost and need to match and map.
The MX5 gauges are reasonably attractive and quite easy to adapt so they look the part on a 7.
the uprights are well designed and allow 14" wheels to be used (15" minimum on a Sierra based Haynes)
All the recorded issues with the MX5 diff on the Haynes have been about people experimenting trying to adapt Mazda's method of locating the odd
shaped Mazda diff casing onto the Roadster chassis. There is nothing wrong with the Maxda diff it's just the damn weird shaped box they choose
put it in. A diff is a diff, replace the casing with a simpler smaller one and it mounts up eactly the same as the Sierra one.

Thank you to everyone for your help so far, I have looked at talon and didn't see it so I dismissed it.
I was planning mx5 route due to the power that you can get from the engine an would love a small supercharger to go with it but I think this woul be
post iva. I'm also planning on making my own removable hardtop if all goes well haha eek.
I also would love a £400 donor mx5 where did you pick that up from I can't see anything lower than 800
Quite simple really, an ebay search set up as a daily email and then six months of waiting! Patience pays off when looking for a donor.
Oddly enough, i'm also thinking about some post-iva forced induction...
I just done a quick search on auto trader (national) and found 3 under 500 1 non runner.
I just think a little tinkering after iva is allowed lol. I will also be using this vehicle for a little charity track day fun. I am heavily involved
with a welsh children's hospice that my son uses so I think it might be a nice thing to do for the dads group maybe

Haha that's true enough I would be devastated lol.
The non runner was engine gone, I don't mind having no mot / tax etc but the engine had gone on that one thanks for printing me to look
though. Interesting times ahead I think haha clean garage time
