Suicidal maniac!
speedyxjs - 6/1/10 at 06:15 PM

I was delivering round Seaford today, minding my own business, enjoying the snow and the empty roads, when i see an unfamiliar sight up ahead. Il say now that at this point the snow was really heavy and visibility was pretty low, coming toward me was... an Ariel Atom!!!

I couldnt stop laughing for about half an hour!

Hmm, wouldn't have been my first choice of transport!

After driving a Auto tintop to work I seriously considereding using my Dax next time

Just need some studded tyres

Can you get them in 17 45 profile ?

Completely stupid thing to do...

Dangle_kt - 6/1/10 at 06:53 PM

My tin top is front wheel drive, but it has no abs or traction control. What's the difference between the atom and an old BMW (rear wheel drive)? If both diven with care I don't think it's that dangerous? Uncomfy yes.

I would expect by the time he reached the bottom of his drive, he would have lost all feeling in his whole body!

I say fair play that man !

Probably wrapped up in skiing clobber and toasty as....

scootz - 6/1/10 at 08:20 PM

I'm just working on the basis of assumption... dangerous, I know!

I'm thinking if he has an Atom, then he has an 'everyday car'. If he's driving in that weather in the Atom, then he's doing so because he thinks it's a bit mad (and is loving the attention no-doubt). If he thinks it's a bit mad, then he knows it's not the brightest idea. If he knows it's not the brightest idea, then why the hell is he doing it.

If it all goes horribly wrong, then he'll have a hard time reconciling his decision-making with any potential feelings of guilt! I mean it's not as if it's not been drummed into us all that we shouldn't be on the roads unless we really have to... far less play on them in something that is plainly not suited to the conditions!

But then again - I could be wrong... I frequently am!

His every day car might be broken or worse in snow, its unlikely but possibly.

Its a stupid thing to do but the feeling must be intense.

If he has an atom, then he probably has an XKr in the garage, or stuck on the drive.

I used to ride my motorbike into central london from chatham in weather like this.

I was single then, and didnt have any kids, had not long finished my apprenticeship, and the bike was literally the only option. either that, or dont get paid.

morcus - 6/1/10 at 09:42 PM

From all acounts I've seen the Audi R8 works as a normal car so I wouldn't say it was mad to take one out in the snow, or for it to be some ones main car if they had the dosh.

mangogrooveworkshop - 6/1/10 at 10:07 PM

Damdy cash uses his seven for his trip to work snow or no snow
As for the Atom Man much respect as the wind chill must have been -30

Met him at S. Queensferry recently to collect something. Torrential rain and he was in his Caterham...

Ninehigh - 9/1/10 at 09:37 PM

I go to work on a scooter, and as I can't wear a big coat while I'm driving I'm actually warmer than I would be in the car
