Anyone got a MITSUBISHI SHOGUN SPORT EQUIPPE?
coozer - 18/4/10 at 07:12 PM

I'm on the brink..

Following on from the Audi A6 from Franko, sorry mate wasn't being serious and it looked a good buy..

Anyway, I've seen a Mitsy close by for sale.. I understand it will cost 2x to run than my 50mpg Rover but the extra luxurious should make up for that and the fact I only go to work and back and round the doors I can cope with the extra running costs.

Just interested to know what they like?

Any problems with engines like the Surf etc??

LG,
Steve

4D56 engine is the same as fitted to the L200.

Big trouble when they go wrong, I run a 4x4 breakers yard and i can not get stock of these engines, I have a list of people waiting for them and they do good money too if you find a good one (£1800)

Apart from the engines they are not too troublesome, gearboxes have no faults, front diffs tend to often be troublesome to engage, loads of diffferent vaccum based sensors etc for actuating the diff.

Make sure the wiper motor works as they pack up with regular monotony.

Just watch for rust on the chassis, some of the ones i have seen on a 52-55 plate have been downright rotten.

If its got a damaged front bumper then leave it alone as they are as rare as hens teeth as a second hand replacement.

Just bear in mind that mitsubishi parts are possibly the most expensive mainstream 'high street' manufacturer for parts eg, new shape L200 radiator gen part is £600, diffs are over a grand, gearboxes are £3k, wiper motors are £200+

They are heavy on tyres and very heavy on fuel, real life MPG of low 20s.

There are worse buys out there but make sure there are no rattles on that engine or it will be soon time to get the wallet out.

Engines suffer from oil/crank related issues and commonly throw a rod out the block, other than that they suffer heavily with head gasket issues.

I know a bloke who's had one from new, 5 or 6 years now I think and he's never had a single problem and he uses it to tow farm equipment every now and then too. Built to last seems.

There's a 51 plate one at Rother Valley salvage for £2350 cat c damaged. You'd probably get your money back on it for parts.

How does that compare against other similar 25td 4x4's Col??

Like i say we can not keep stock of the engines, I could sell 3 a week.

Being a breakers we only buy vehicles that are known to be troublesome otherwise we wont sell the bits! Hence we buy mitsubishi L200's and Shogun Sports, Discos, Ford rangers, Nissan Navaras, Nissan Terranos, Range rover P38's Range rover L322 (these are the most reliable ones we buy)

I have customers who have 30k on the clock and a rod through the block.

I have customers who have 100k plus and have litterally worn it out and need a replacement but the majority of our sales are to the folks who have had crank bearing pickup and rods through blocks.

Oh also the front pullys chatter like mad and wear the woodruff key out of the crank = crank out to get another slot machined in it!
