Exhaust heat shield rattle.
MikeLR - 4/5/10 at 03:51 PM

I have a "T" reg Honda Shuttle still on original exhaust. The problem I am having is that the heat shields are "rattling" very loudly at certain revs more so on starting.
Can I use something like Sikaflex to "repair" the fixings ? will it be able to stand the heat or will it just burn.
Dont want to replace exhaust system as its still OK and will get rid when youngest leaves Uni in couple of months.
thanks.

Are you sure it is the heat shield? I had a similar rattle on my Discovery. Land Rover said it was a heat shield but it later turned out that the ceramic core of the catalytic converter that had had collapsed, blocking the exhaust!

Take the heat sheild off and cover the exhaust with exhaust wrap.

I'd be tempted to try gunking them on with exhaust goo

but it could still be the cat having destroyed itself. Measurable amounts of platinium on the roads now due to cats destoying themselves...

Over here they use road salt heavily it's really common for exhaust and cat shields to rust loose. Common fix is to wrap a long stainless jubilee clamp (I've seen them up to a meter long) around the shield a couple of turns. Most of the auto parts stores carry them but they can be had cheaply at industrial hydraulics shops.

very much off topic, but don't know if you might know the answer to this Ben, my mate told me that the solt of 'salvage' or scrap value of a person is sort of in the millions of pounds if there was a way to extract all the metals and minerals in a person. doesn't sound likely to me, but wondered if its true?
