Mille Miglia 2010
balidey - 9/5/10 at 08:54 PM

My dad works on old racing cars, restoring them for a living.
He has just got back this afternoon from the Mille Miglia event in Italy. You should know all about this, so I won't go into details of what the event is.
My dad has been mechanic and in the support crew for quite a few cars on a number of years recently (I think its his 7th or 8th year doing it).
Well this year one of the co-drivers had to retire after the 1st day, so my dad stepped in. He was only bloody COMPETING in this years event. Jealous? Me? Not much.
He did the leg from Roma to Brescia, so basically half of it. Including a stage on the Maranello test track!
We've just been trawling google and youtube for pics or clips of him. None yet, but as soon as we find one I'll link it here.
Nice 'work' if you can get it.

Not quite.
But he has driven a couple of Jackie Stewart's old cars, as according to some of dad's colleagues, they are both short arses

I saw SM at Silverstone Classic 2009, he didn't even meet my shoulders and I am a shortarse! I bet he is even shorter after the lift episode!

I have a "friend" that looks after all sorts - he has a hard time balancing hobbywork (weekends away looking after european trips and Ferrari 360/430's etc) and family time...

I would not have that same problem!!!

Sorry Milenah and 7 week old baby Josef

Mille Miglia has been on my list of things to do before i die for years. Not sure if i will ever be able to afford it though

Some people have all the luck!
Spectated on this a couple of years ago and had hoped to watch this year whilst on hols there last week but it didn't happen due to weather etc.
As good, if not better, from spectator view-point is the GP Nuvolari which taked place in Sept.
Normally goes around Northern Italy starting Mantova and it's possible to follow as a spectator as it's not only on normal roads but they aren't closed off for the participants.
Anyone wanting an Italian speaking spannerman for either event next year send U2U soonest.
Cheers, Pewe
BTW close call on our return - reckon we were on the last plane out of Pisa Sat. am before the dust halted flights.
Even Ryanair have sent an email cancelling our flight - they have a section asking if we want a re-fund. Tempted to apply? - you bet - espec. as it's Ryanair.
