As per title and re picture below, I want to replace the axle and wheels on my old but sturdy trailer.
The current axel is a cut and shut Austin A35? but unfortunatly no provision ws made to support the inner side of the halfshafts, leading to rapid
wear of the wheel berarings. The wheels/tyres are shot too
So looking for a replacement if anyone's got someting suitably locost or any pointers to a suitable doner vehicle.
The width is 50" to the edge of the mudguards, 37" across the leaf springs.
I appreciate I may have to cut and sleeve to the req'd width.
TIA

mk 3 escort van rear axle?
Only out the scrappy solutions I can think of is the rear beam axle from a Fiesta Mk1 or 1980's Rover 213/216/Honda Ballade
Otherwise convert to indespension units but that will cost about £120

Can you not repair what you already have?
If you had a tube which is a good fit over the half shafts. Weld on to one side so that when assembled the other side will slide inside. Voila the
halfshafts are supporting themselves again.
Davie
PS remember to fit new bearings before you weld the sleeve on

Series 1 Fiat Panda axle would slip right in there
Assuming your not pushed for time, keep your eyes open for a suitable second hand trailer axle?
Forintance (first hit of ebay, not looked closely)

bedford rascal type van would be good. RWD though, but not a problem.
almost any fwd car/van from the 80s would do i'd think
I'm liking the Escort van/ Panda axle, I can picture them from driving behingd them as a simple straight tube with stubs on the end, sounds
locost too if I can find one.
I have looked on Ebay plenty , there are some good deals on indespension type, but I was hoping not to do that much modification work, nor do I want
to pay £100 to fix my £50 trailer!
I picked up two Escort van axles, complete with wheels and good tyres, for £100 from a scrappy that is notoriously expensive (the joys of a rural
existence ).
Good news is they have square tube axles, so easy to attach and extend if need be.
Ill ring a few local ones today, see wht I can turn up
Escort van axle with wheels £45, but closed 10 mins before I rang, will go and peek one evening
