Just driven my normal route home...

There is a crossroads junction on a long straight, notorious for accidents.

Linky

Its common for people to dive across the main road (A47) and for people to pull out infront of you to go down the A47.

I was going toward wisbech at 60mph and one car pulled out from broad end road (west) and went straight across. Not unusual.

Then a couple of young girls in a red primera decided to pull out as well when I was around 100yds from the junction. They proceeded to turn right from broad end road (west). Jumping across the road would have been pushing it!

How I missed them I will never know. Didnt even have time to go on the brakes or horn. Just swerved around them, just as well there wasnt anything turning right into broad end road (east)! Even so I only missed them by under 12".

I nearly got out of the car at the next roundabout and had a go at them. But thought the better of it.

Un-bloody-believeable....

And the car I was in? Bright YELLOW Seat Leon!!

omega0684 - 27/5/10 at 05:55 PM

i thought your Leon was black?

glad to hear your unhurt mate!

Lucky you were behaving yourself, much quicker and it might have been very different!

Young kids and cars eh? I had to disconnect the stereo from the sister-in-laws car because she spent more time dancing and singing along than watching where she was going!

flak monkey - 27/5/10 at 06:09 PM

Yeah, I dont speed down there as I know what that junction is like.

I honestly thought they were going to dive straight across, I didnt think anyone would be stupid enough to actually turn right with that little room

Stuart_B - 27/5/10 at 06:44 PM

that is what most young drivers are like.

well me and eddie99 are not.

i make sure when i go i have enough time to get going, not a problem in the kit car, a lot harder in the saxo.lol

so speedy missed you out, but i argree they all have to go a road to collage at 60+ in a 30, with lots of kids about and a blind Conner. they will be a bad accident one day i feel sure.

Just to counterbalance this age thing, was going round a roundabout the other day when a middle aged women in a black mondeo shot out from the middle of three lanes joining the roundabout (traffic in each one) without even looking. Ended up going sideways to avoid her, if there'd been anything on my inside I'd have had to hit something...

Can't see a yellow Seat? Some people can't see a 40 ton truck!

Tbh I don't believe age comes into it, young drivers make your usual noob mistake whereas older drivers make a-hole stubborn dangerous mistakes (usually involves not looking imho too)

coozer - 28/5/10 at 07:21 AM

Driving North up the A1 where it goes to 3 lanes after the angel... car joining going about the same speed as me just wanders across, not exactly in front, more like into the side. Quick blast on the horn and she woke up and nearly crashed she corrected that much.

And, that was only a 26 ton truck, more invisible than a 40 ton one?

David Jenkins - 28/5/10 at 07:46 AM

Some people think that because their indicators are flashing they have a God-given right to drive straight out into the main road.

I've even had the 2-finger salute from one of these, after I sounded my horn at them - just because I was doing 70 mph in the inside lane, a faster car was overtaking me so I couldn't move over, and there were cars close behind do I daren't slow down suddenly. What am I supposed to do? Go vertical?

lotusmadandy - 28/5/10 at 07:47 AM

You will be surprised just how many driver's don't see a 44ton yellow tanker, then give you a mouthfull when you blast the horn.
IMHO some people just dont pay enough attention to their driving, regardless of age.

Its people not looking alot of the time, alot of people just follow other people out at junctions and round abouts.

On my way back from tesco this afternoon I had someone catch up with me rapidly (I was doing 35 on the speedo so I was speeding and they caught up very quickly) who then sat right behind me. when we got to a small roundabout I accellerated and went in front of someone in a gap I would normally leave, I then saw them follow straight out, forcing the other car to stop. I was going to stop opposite something and get out but they turned off before anything came up.

Ages ago, when i was in Greece for holidays, i was going back home after a night out. It was about 3am, so as you can imagine i had my lights on.

A car pulled in-front of me from a side road when i was about 30m away and doing 50mph. Although it was a quite wide road, he decided to do 20mph exactly in the middle of the road so i had to undertake him otherwise i would have ridden his arse. After I undertook him, i extended my hand outside the window and gave him the w@nker handsign.

He then started following me, overtaking me and then stopping the car before i overtook him again for several times.

He then speeded away, pull over and standed in the middle of the road to stop me.
Not wanting to cause an accident, i stopped. He started walking towards me, with a "I am going to kick your @rse style" before i got off the car holding the fire extinguisher.

Guess what happened next. Too bad mobile phones didn't have cameras back then.

I have another nice story with another driver that did something similar.

But I will keep it on for the next time i see a post like this.

Seeing as you're not sending this from a Greek jail I shall guess he figured you were actually up for a fight so backed off.

Why would i be in Jail?

I wasn't up for a fight either.

I was just preparing to become a fireman.

josh - 4/6/10 at 09:32 PM

does't matter what age/gender or type of motor...had a 59 plate porsche overtake me last week (DD-old escort van) then slow to a crawling pace, A12 ,i over take then he does the same again. I also waved the universal to$$er jesture at him. Then while he's sitting on my bonnet he forces me to pull over, which i obliged, only for him to have second thoughts, bottle it and shoot off! could be me @ 5'9 and 13st or my mate 6'2 and 20st not sure????????!!!
probably an over paid football player with too much smoke blown up his rear!!!!!!!

Well you're British (I persume) so any breaking the law in some places will see you in jail while they figure out what to charge you with (how very unbritish!)

Also most agressive people are actually pussy(cat)s when you don't back down. Like the bloke who legged it when missus caught him slapping some woman.

l0rd - 6/6/10 at 07:28 PM

No, I am not British.

I am Greek. Just happens that i live here in UK for the last 13 years.

BTW, I am 6ft 6"-7"ish and used to be 16st when this happened.

On another story that i have, i got off the pick up truck and pulled out the spare wheel bar which was about 2.5 feet long.
That was 20feet away from the police station and my mate ridding with me is a Plod.

I never like to fight and when you see a guy like looking mad with a piece of steel in their hands, you will run away.

My point exactly about looking ready for a fight

morcus - 7/6/10 at 12:59 AM

My driving instructor of all people told me that if you ever do stop to confront someone, you have to be prepared to follow through and actually do something if the other party gets out. Not nessarilly fight them but at least shout at them.

This from a woman in her 50's, though she was a biker, and a bit mental.

l0rd - 7/6/10 at 09:08 PM

Just remembered one more occasion. How did i forget this one.

10am, Was driving my pickup truck. I was following my brother to drop his car off to the garage. Doing about 50-55mph.

Just after a right hand bend, i saw my brother swerving and thought that there must be something in the road. So i opened my line a bit, just to find that there was an old man in a bicycle in the middle of the road (spot on over the white line) being completely p1$$ed and trying to keep the bicycle under control.

Got hard on the brakes, just on the exit of the turn and the rears locked which pulled the pickup truck sideways and me looking at the old man, face to face in front of me just 5-7m away and closing. I quickly steered to the opposite direction to catch the car and LUCKY mejust managed to do that. Although, I broke my mirror on the bicycle's steering bar.

I actually shaved the old man, WHO didn't even fell down and kept riding down the road.

I went off the road and was really lucky as only the front wheel fell on the 1m in depth canal next to the road as the car stopped by hanging on the side bullbars.

I believe, that was the day that I lost my voice by shouting at him in about 30sec.
