Are the tyres OK? Is the road surface OK? Are you braking stupidly hard? Are the brakes a bit grabby? ABS feeling like it it working and no fault lamp suggests that the ABS is working. Whilst Renault may have tuned it to be a bit over sensitive, I'd check the foundation brakes, the tyres and the driver to make sure they're working properly.

A dead/dying wheel speed sensor can cause the ABS to operate prematurely.

You say the discs are not warped, but have you checked the run out?

Even genuine Renault discs are quite thin and it doesnt take alot of heat to make them judder.

Wife's car only does about 2 miles per day.
Any way you can check the speed sensor?

had the same problem. The abs kicks in occasionally for no reason when braking
It's one of the abs reluctor rings(one on each wheel) looks like a cog on the drive shaft. inspect each one very closely for broken teeth, or in my case the cog had fractured and was slipping round the drive shaft.
You can get a replacement, it fits like a starting ring gear.
My local one man band garage, changed the whole drive shaft for about £160
