Land Rover Disco probs....
richard thomas - 12/8/10 at 07:24 PM

Any LR experts on here?

Got a 2000 X plate Disco with the active suspension (ACE) fitted.

Lately when cornering the red dashboard ACE warning light flashes with the corresponding 'bong' sound.

When I switch off ignition and restart it goes away so it's not a 'hard' fault, thinking it could be a sensor or something...?

Have done a bit of reading up on it, understand that there are some gyro's in there somewhere to monitor the attitude of the car, plus a hydraulic pump etc, but was wondering if anybody else has experienced this? Well aware that this forum can usually answer most queries

Hi

I have never had any issues with the gyro's or the sensors but there is a filter in the system that is often over looked if the car has not been serviced by Landrover themselves.

The bad frost we had a few new years ago gave my system the same issues, always clearing after a restart. I had new fluid and filter done and had no repeats so may be worth doing that first, may be cheaper too.

Cheers Kev, I'll have a look at that - I know it hasn't been changed yet.

There are height sensors at the rear, they have wipers which wear in the same place, swap the left for right and you get new wear areas good for another 100k miles.

Nice one, I'll try that too

I run a LR breakers in the midlands if you need any bits, Disco 2's are our bread and butter.

Most folks ditch the ace system as it is incredibly troublesome, mainly because the pipes have a nast habit of corroding through and pissing oil everywhere.

Simple to do, swap the front and rear ARB's for NON ace versions and get a non ace aux belt for the engine and get the car plugged in to tell it that it no longer has ace on it.

Once the pipes have corroded (4 of them that run from a valve block under the car below the drivers seat up under the OSF wheel arch into the engine bay) they obviously need replacing at much cost, then along with that you will find that the pipes have corroded into the valve block too and wont come out, second hand block go for £100=£150 with the pipes removed.

IMO its best to ditch the system, i sell ARB's with mounting brackets for £90 for the pair.

There is an ECU for the ace system which IIRC is behind the glove box, its a silver one i think. I sell a fair few of these so if it turns out thats at fault give me a bell.

The valve blocks do tend to play up too but you can normally hear them chattering away when they have gone haywire!

If you need anything give me a shout on here.

Good luck!
