I've plumbed in my new stereo (Kenwood) and have run a USB lead from the back of the head unit for iPhone / iPod.
When the ignition is on the stereo runs all iPhone functions quite happily for as long as I want it to. Start the engine though and it goes on
strike! The information still appears on the display and the track time keeps running, but there's no sound!
Anyone have any clues?

It could indeed be that the fixed live and switch live feeds are reversed, which can cause all sorts of issues, although both should be live when the
ignition is on.
- Some take there main power feed from the hard power, using the switched as a signal.
- Some take main power from the switched, using the hard only for the clock/preset memory.
I presume the cable is a premade cable, shielded, and that the ipod is isolated from everything other than the cable.
Does the sterio work other than this, play cds and radio with engine running, remember presets?
What happens if you start the engine and then stall it?

The cable is the one that came with the head-unit and is run down the dash, under the gearstick / handbrake and then connected to an Apple lead which
routes to the arm-rest compartment (where I store the iPhone whilst in the car).
Everything else seems to work fine... not tried stalling it - it's an auto
When the engine is running it usually plays a short section of song from where it left off and then the sound goes in about 10 secs or so (but the
song timer keeps running). After that all the iPod function on the stereo start to get sticky and it becomes hard to navigate. If I try and select
another song then it defaults to the first song alphabetically on the iPhone.
I've had a look through the Kenwood manual, but there are no 'troubleshooting' tips that cover this.
Updated to the latest software on the iPhone and that seems to have done the trick!
