So, anyone else been out in the snow??
dan8400 - 30/11/10 at 07:55 AM

I took the oppurtunity last night to break out the Tiger and go absolutely mental in the snow in my farm yard!! I was an hour. Got cold and wet but didnt care one bit! Power sliding. spinning J-turns etc etc etc

If anyone else can think of how to have more fun at 10 - 20 mph I'd like to hear it

Anyone else been having fun in the snow (kit car/locost related)

Thanks
Dan

Just drove to work in the L200 as usual, things were very slow I can't figure out why

The empty carpark was fun for 10 minutes....

Daddylonglegs - 30/11/10 at 08:09 AM

Snow! What snow? It's 26deg here in Lahore

Mind you, I think I'd sooner be chopping logs for the fire at home

russbost - 30/11/10 at 08:09 AM

Well I have to take the Furore F1 to Chelmsford this morning for its DVLA inspection (driving it there). Doesn''t look like being much fun, we have about 2" of snow at present - no doubt when I get there they'll announce they can't do it due to the weather. Of course you can't ring them to check anything cos they won't give you a direct line - Great!

dan8400 - 30/11/10 at 08:13 AM

Hey Russ, why not make use of their car park if they're not playing ball

I havnt had the locost out yet (on the estate) but i have been having some fun in the tintop. The tyres are pretty badly worn (not quite illegal but about 2.5mm tread). Been doing lots of drifting and teaching my sister car control in her Yaris by getting her to drive with the handbrake on

dan8400 - 30/11/10 at 08:17 AM

Snow is great for teaching yourself car control. Because it all happens so slowly. (and if you've got somewhere off road to do it) Wouldn't advise doing anything fun on the road lol

There's about 18 inches of snow in my street, so that's probably a bit more than is desirable for a wee bit of sliding about, unfortunately.

we've got nearly the same here (which never normaly happens) but the gritters have left a car and a half wide strip with only 1" - 2" covering it

it would be fun if it wasn't for all the idiots - why do people feel the need to walk down the middle of the road

mangogrooveworkshop - 30/11/10 at 09:26 AM

Ive had loads of drifting in the van.........as I love driving in the snow.
When you drive as much as I do I snow driving is great for the challenge.
12 inches plus is a lot of snow for November

fha772 - 30/11/10 at 09:30 AM

I've had a few funny looks from people driving about in my open top Mahindra Jeep...

I suppose i should really by a roof for it

mcerd1 - 30/11/10 at 09:41 AM

^^ I think we need to see some pics of that

nick205 - 30/11/10 at 09:43 AM

Bah! Not snow here yet although it's making a very feable attempt at the moment.

The cold greasy roads are still quite entertaining though, very easy to provoke a little slither off the roundabouts and out of bends particularly when they tyres are past their best.

zilspeed - 30/11/10 at 10:11 AM

Our issue is.
The street is a cul de sac, covered in 18" snow.
The sole route onto it is covered the same.
Likewise, the sole route onto that is also covered with 18" snow.

We're not on a primary or a secondary route.
So, we won't ever see a gritter, end of story.

That's liveable in a normal winter, but not this year.

FFTS - 30/11/10 at 10:21 AM

Up to now no snow here but very cold and great frost. Been driving the Phoenix for the past 3 days with quite a bit on the motorways. A snotty nose and a sneeze inside your helmet isn't good hey. Also passed an active gritter.. that was some experience

Found a frosty empty car park on my way home though and accidentally skidded in circles

Daddylonglegs - 30/11/10 at 10:23 AM

We had a good kicking last year out in the sticks of Wiltshire, just hope it doesn't happen again this year as the damn Disco is still off the road Running out of ideas on what is wrong with it

I have to admit I see lots of gritters

but then I work next to there nest and live next to the co-op where they buy there pies - the road inbetween is always kept clear

Had my RX8 out which was entertaining, local council seem to ask their staff to do 3 laps of the town hall with the gritter and bugger off for a brew

Daddylonglegs - 30/11/10 at 11:35 AM

Dan,

Good point, well presented

You nasty man

It's a bl**dy expensive paperweight at the moment and certainly not doing much 'roving'

I have a few mates in the Landrover scene... seems to be alot of heartache and hard work for something so unreliable. However, they wouldn't change them for anything else in the world.

They say it's a love - hate relationship. I say they are sado masichists!!!

Each to their own though (and i kind of understand the off road thing, kinda fun )

Thanks
Dan

Don't do the offroad thing (intentionally ) but definitely do need the 4 x 4 where we live in winter.

Should make for fun trying to get it back to the top of your driveway

Dangle_kt - 30/11/10 at 07:19 PM

i hope we get loads of snow.

I'' get the dirt bike out!

JoelP - 30/11/10 at 08:39 PM

ive got to be out with a 2 tonne trailer before 7 tomorrow thats going to be interesting. The van is bad enough by itself, nevermind towing.

morcus - 30/11/10 at 09:51 PM

How do you guy's manage to have anyfun driving in snow? The second it snows the roads round here are filled with Idiots driving at ridiculusly slow speeds. Today was the first real day of snow in Ashford and it's the same as ever, a little bit of snow and it takes 8 times longer to get to work, It took my 40 minutes to cover about 3 miles (More than half of that is dual carriage way because of a combination of public works (Four vans parked next to one of those Green boxes next to the road with a bloke directing traffic) and Idiots driving stupidly slow on clear roads. I had someone pullout infront of me on a hill and had to slow from almost thirty to slower than the speedo reads going up hill and then had to follow him all the way to work. and for some reason it seemed someone had moved the snow from the first lane of the dual carriage way into the other one as there was a large mound of snow just beyond the line. I'm really hoping this is gonna pass quicker than it did earlier in the year because it's driving me mad already.

Is it just me or does it seem that loads of people skive of work because it's snowing and at the same time the amount of off peak traffic seems to go up?

JoelP - 30/11/10 at 10:04 PM

people going slow annoy the hell out of me; i appreciate they have to drive to their abilities, but having the cheek to beep as i overtake is just ridiculous! You need a 4wd, it really is ridiculous how easy it is to get about. Ive been driving through drifts, over grass and snow, without even feeling it struggle. If you feel a drift on a corner you can just floor it and point it in!

And you REALLY need to be out before the roads full up with numpties! (hence the pre-7 start tomorrow )

morcus - 1/12/10 at 12:41 AM

I always get the one's who pull out right infront of me, if the conditions where as bad as they think they are then I would have crashed numerous times. The otherside of this is you lose all visability, when your moving at a decent speed snow blows over the car, when someone decides to drive at less than 10mph in front of you the snow starts to hit the screen, plus the inevitable lumps flying from the top of their car as it tends to be the people crawling along that haven't removed the snow from their roofs.

My car can handle snow fine and can get through big piles front on but theres no way I'd risk trying to climb a steep mound of snow sideways. TBH I long for a torque converter in this weather far more than four wheel drive.
