Trailer Hubs...Best Place to Buy
grassracer - 10/1/11 at 12:16 PM

Anyone recommend the cheapest place to buy braked trailer hubs/suspension units and other general trailer components?

rphleisure on ebay seem quite competetive.

Also try towsure and autow for comparison.

Not used them yet, but seem reasonable.

I got mine from this company

www.peaktrailers.com

I use 4 x ten inch wheels on my trailer and Peak machine a chamfer on the brake drums to allow the small wheel to fit over an eight inch drum, instead of the usual seven inch ones.

Scrap caravan base is the cheapest - I got suspension, brakes, wheels (tyres rotted - I was twitching in case of a blow out all the way home!) ,hitch, galvanised chassis(needed strengthening though as it relied on the floor that was shagged, but the front A frame part was good) for £100. Hitch and suspension are rated for 1280kg. See your local paper classified ads, and you'll probably have to look at a few before you get what you want. I spent about £20 on refurbishing the hitch rubber gaiter and suspension bump stops, as well as some labour/grease nuts and bolts I already had etc.... Obviously you then need the deck materal/lashing points/lights/sides/reflectors if you want them etc etc
