I just had a 20 min walk around arch motors in huntingdon looking at atom and caterham chassis in various stats of build and loads of other chassis aswell , was stood watching a chap making a ally rear panel fit the rear of a chassis he said it takes 30 mins and he was making it look easy very impresive place and very old school methods
I had a tour earlier in the year and I too was pleasantly surprised
(Did you see their secret project?)
I visited Arch many moons ago as they were doing some fab' work for me (I worked up the road at a well known race car manufacturer). This was
when they still did the chassis for Caterham.
There were all these strange chassis (big curved tubes) kicking about that this "mad bloke" (according to the chap at Arch)was trying to
flog a car with no bodywork. The general view was that it would never come to anything.
It was only the Ariel Atom! Before it deformed Clarkson's face.
Had a visit to the Morgan factory a while back, and it was good to see 'people' making things rather than machines. Some of the old-school techniques are unfortunately dying, it would be a shame to lose their skills
I visited Arch Motors a year or so ago - amazing place, like stepping back 50 years (in a good way!).
Very busy, and a lot of craftsmen hard at work... it was a good experience for me.
