today i have been in a very very very very fast car! and not a 7. take a guess
daniel mason - 16/7/11 at 06:21 PM

my cousin works for a large company (multi million pound turnover) and the MD lent him his fun car for the weekend. he also has a big merc but im not up on them so i dont know what it is, and a ferrari 612. so can you guess what his fun car is?
its not a 7
its modern
has rear seats (although ot much room at all)
its japanese
and turbo'd

i have been in a ferarri 355 a few yers ago,had 2 fast imprezas,an evo 8 and 2 BEC's but this thing was a whole new animal. it was easily the fastest car ive ever been in, and at one point i had to ask him to slow down as i was scared the first time he really put his foot down in a low gear inearly swallowed my tongue. seriously fast from the passenger seat!

flibble - 16/7/11 at 06:23 PM

Gotta be a GTR........

daniel mason - 16/7/11 at 06:53 PM

yeah! you guys are good, spot on. 2011 plate nissan GTR. truly awesome peice of engineering. if i was to be a little critical i would say the ride was very very hard but its only to be expected from a machine with performance like it had.
absolutely astonishing power and performance. i hope my s2000 engined mnr is half as quick!

motorcycle_mayhem - 16/7/11 at 07:05 PM

What you really need is a motorcycle......

Yep, in terms of power weight the GTR is a pussy compared to a modern superbike.

fazerruss - 16/7/11 at 07:27 PM

Another vote for two wheels. My Triumph sprint is not an out n out sport bike but will still do nearly 170mph and no car Ive come across yet will beat me from a standing start.

Antnicuk - 16/7/11 at 07:27 PM

they havent actually got that much power in terms of modern production and modified cars but i think its more down to the gadgetry getting the power down. Most cars with the same power would spin wheels losing acceleration. Also they grip exceptionally well in the bends.

Ninehigh - 16/7/11 at 07:35 PM

GTR you're looking at somewhere in the region of 450bhp aren't you?

eddie99 - 16/7/11 at 07:41 PM

Yup, Nissan GTR point to point on realistic bumpy normal roads is quicker than pretty much anything.......

daniel mason - 16/7/11 at 07:46 PM

it was very very fast. unlke anything ive ever been in. power delivery is awesome and id say point to point like eddie said, you would need to be a maniac on 2 wheels to keep up! especially when wet

scootz - 16/7/11 at 08:34 PM

Awwww... I figured it was a GTR before I finished reading Dans initial post! Couldn't you guys have waited until I came on the site so I could have been the one to 'get it'?

I never win nothing, me!

scootz - 16/7/11 at 08:36 PM

.. and yup, bike figures are truly astonishing, but 'bike speed' never felt as fast to me as 'car speed'.

Does that even make sense!?

flibble - 16/7/11 at 08:47 PM

Yup, 120 on a fireblade was a nice jaunt in the countryside, 120 in a car scares the bejesus out of me

scootz - 16/7/11 at 08:48 PM

That's the one!

agreed, you would have thought a bike would feel faster but it just doesnt!

adithorp - 16/7/11 at 09:41 PM

They're a bit too big though to be truly nimble though

Andi - 16/7/11 at 09:46 PM

Without doubt a mighty fine car........
Second hand prices are around the same price as an Ariel Atom.
Mmmmmmmmm! Ariel Atom

Antnicuk - 16/7/11 at 09:51 PM

you could take the wife to dinner in the GTR, i doubt she would be too impressed if you took in her in an Atom on a day like today! Its not a car i would want to own out of warranty though

Over 3 seconds faster round Cadwell than a Duc 1098, the GTR is the performance bargain of the decade

You could take the wife to dinner in a Sierra. Or make the car more exciting and leave her at home.

I was at Castle Combe last year and a very flashy truck spat two out into the paddock, team colours etc etc. By far the least impressive cars of the day, pretty much everything made them look slightly sluggish. The Japanese should really look to Europe for inspiration rather than America if they want to go quickly on anything other than a drag strip. It was lovely to see a 35 year old Lotus Europa running rings around them (and pretty much everything else for that matter)

Bare - 17/7/11 at 03:51 AM

Now That! would have like to have seen.
I owned an Europa 12 years. Had the chassis out on 2 separate 'total' rebuilds.
I fitted 4 different engines.
The Thing eventually evolved into a Race Ready machine, with a Renault R12 based engine for a 'real' 180 hp.. Not the BS lotus numbers bandied about for their underperforming engines..
I truly hated that 'europa' .. it was a wee poor substitute for my much loved but long gone S3 Seven 'racer'
Just kept it out of pure stubborness as I kept trying to 'fix' it's inherent crappiness.
Hard to believe one of those excreable things could Trounce very much at all on any Racetrack..
Unless the other cars had flat tires and /or damaged motors.

morcus - 17/7/11 at 06:16 AM

That picture of the garage is brilliant, much better than whats in the carpark out my window.

imp paul - 17/7/11 at 07:56 AM

well it must have been a massive grin on your face going in the gtr . hmmmmmm if only i could afford 1 not in my life time lol o and scott well done for getting it mate see we do care

Thats the sort of stuff you find 7 levels down under Casino Square, Monaco. Those were just the first 2 spaces we found... honest.

Volvorsport - 17/7/11 at 09:15 AM

2 wheels are better than 4 ?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XBu6STlhh8Q

i think its slightly rigged tho .......

Well on track the GTR isn't that quick, There is such a huge difference between a track car and a road car. On actual roads i know for a fact that a GTR will be quicker than a pagani. On track no where close.

I bet some of the kits on here are quicker than a GTR round the track but after all its not meant to be a trackday, its meant to be an everyday extremely fast car that has very awesome electronics to make it easy to drive fast.

daniel mason - 17/7/11 at 09:56 AM

what did it lap the ring in? i thought it was up there with the quickest of cars?

daniel mason - 17/7/11 at 10:03 AM

just found it on supercars.net.
2011 nissan GTR 7 mins 24 secs
fastest caterham i could see was r500 at 7mins 55 secs
not a bad lap time for the GTR. faster than the enzo and other mch more exotic supercars!
0-60 in 3.1 secs. not bad for a sluggish car

eddie99 - 17/7/11 at 10:03 AM

Oh ok my bad.... But i have seen some slow GTRs on trackdays, must be the drivers

daniel mason - 17/7/11 at 10:06 AM

no your probably right eddie. especially on a tight short track where it cant really use its power to the same effect as a fast circuit like the ring! i would say your race car would a match through the corners

franky - 17/7/11 at 10:44 AM

They are awesome cars that'll leave every car on here for dead on the roads and a lot/most tracks too. 4wd allowing them to power out of the tightest/slowest of corners.

Lets not start comparing cars to bikes, they're chalk and cheese. Bikes take much more skill to pilot quickly than cars, there's not the same amount of space for error. the 4 huge contact patches at each corner are more than a help when in a car. Bikes amazingly cheap for what you get performance wise.

I'm quite jealous about having a ride in a GTR, it must be awesome to have that sort of power/pace that you can use on the road. Was it one of the newer cars with launch control and 550+bhp?

hicost - 17/7/11 at 10:45 AM

Are these the same type of cars?

I was at Brands a couple of years ago and we had some close stuff as it was drying out at the end of the day.

I was running a set of rings in!!

Nissan

Not quite the same, the gtr is the replacement for the skyline but designed to handle much much better.

daniel mason - 17/7/11 at 12:52 PM

it was one of the new higher power models with a 3.1 secs 0-60 time.

Have you got a test date for yours yet?

Take the screen off and fit a bike engine, imagine how fast it'd be then

Antnicuk - 17/7/11 at 07:14 PM

looks like they have just answered it on Top Gear!

daniel mason - 17/7/11 at 07:16 PM

i did try to explain just how fast this was! very very very
