Not sure if this is a re-post, as I'm in Canada working at the moment and am a little behind the times (nothing new there then
).
After hearing the result from Sunday's GP my first thought was that after yet another retirement from the race Hamilton would be very unlikely to
stay with McLaren.
And so it has been written....Mercedes it is then
What is the view of the collective?

He's had the best F1 car for most of his career and should have won three titles by now.
He just has not got 'it', the magic that champions are made of.
Another wise decision by LH

Excellent news, now McLaren can concentrate on Button.

Not fussed about him leaving... I supported him at the start, but he's gone further-and-further down in my estimations as time has passed.
Just wish that Di Resta had got his seat to continue the Team GB theme!
Button is not the won to win titles but Hamilton is.
Button has been consistently second to Lewis and was unknown to Jo blog untill his shock championship title a few years back which bagged his seat at
maclaren. He is a good driver but not legendary. He is already too old.
Hamilton is young and has the fire. It will be interesting what he can personally bring to Mercedes that schumacher could not.
A poor move i think. Mclaren have had the best car towards the end of the year, and if not for a few mechanical failures then lewis would be in with a good chance of winning this year. Button doesnt have his measure. Mercedes may come better next year but its a gamble for lewis.
Now we will find out how good Nico is.
Perez 2013 WDC ?
Hamilton set to retire 2014?
On the radio they hint that it will be something to do with the 2014 engine regulations behind the move, have Mercedes got something planned that the others haven't ?
Mercedes & Ferrari are the only ones with factory engines for 2014, I'm sure that's the reason for his move & who knows what's
in the contract?? Perhaps a clause saying Mercedes won't supply engines to McLaren in 2014??? (I doubt it but you can never rule anything out in
F1!)
It's not a good short term move, but could be good for 2014.
I can "sort of" understand it, McLaren have lost at least 2 titles for him by my reckoning, & they should have won this one if they
could remember how to fit the wheels during the early season & had had better reliability!
Of course he may have done better during the last 2 seasons, particularly last year, had he been focussing on the racing rather than jetting round the
world after that Sh*tslinger bird!
I would have much preferred for Lewis to stay with McLaren.
I agree it's a gamble for him to got Mercedes - but look at Ross Brawn's record - he puts a great team together.
I think Button is an excellent driver, however the car has to be setup well for him to get the most out of it. Hamilton on the other hand is one of those drivers who can get the most out of the car no matter how bad it is. Be interesting to see how Perez gets on at Mclaren. Not sure Mercedes would have been my first choice if I was Hamilton, the car is definitely getting better but they are yet to win a race (I think).
And that is the end of his career then. No more world championships for him, by pulling a Villeneuve and taking the money. Errors in judgement have plagued him so far.

It's a shame when money has to pay so big a part in these decisions.
Lewis probably already has more money than he could ever spend along with rest of them.
I've yet to see a poor F1 driver.
I suspect money is the main reason, after all, he lives in tax exile to top off his pile. Or was that cos his fans kept bothering him.

Im a fan of Lewis, wasnt at first, but that was just the green eyed monster within. I think he'll have the last laugh.
I'm a bit gutted he's leaving McL but someone did point out- which other driver has stayed with one team for such a long time? He's done them proud even when they've screwed him over. I'm not a big fan of the Whitmarsh conspiracy theories but old Whitmarsh does seem to praise the hell out of any success by Jenson and seems mildly miffed when Lewis does well. Then again, when Ron was in charge Lewis was the golden child and everyone else was second best.
Perez WDC 2014?
Apart from Lewis being a a turkey voting for Christmas this is very bad news for Paul Di Resta, Hulkenberg and most of all Nico Rosberg.
If I was Nico Rosberg i would try and get out of my contract and be talking to Ferrari.
