my little girl just asked me..

Daddy can i have a jeep for christmas like this..............(points to a plastic ride on jeep in argos)

maybe i say............

so i have just been looking on tinternet for some inspiration.

I have seen the toylander before and i know its been around for ages.

Has anyone built one of these or do you know something better.

BTW my little girl is 6 years old

I've just bought the plans to build one and have made a start.

Compared to building a car (Locost/Race car etc) it seems to be an absolute piece of piss.

I'm building mine using a 50cc quad so not following the instruction and it is still a relatively simple task.

I dont see how thats better, for a start its pedal powered. And its not free as you still have to build it.

I built one for my son 20 years ago. Great fun for a 4 year old and wont fall apart like the plastic rubbish.
Not cheap but worth it.

So far

Moisture Resistant 12mm MDF was £110 for 5 sheets (only 2 are required).
4 Wheels and tyres, yet to be bought £100
19mm Batten scrounged it.

Mobility scooter for motor , again , a freebie.

Front lights landrover Disco reversing lights £5 each.
Indicators and stop lights - Ebay £28

It soon adds Up.

I guess if its going to be pedalpower, weight is a massive issue.

I had a lot fo fun (mean, a lot) with a pedel go kart, razzing about, doing 3point turns to get back along the path at the side of the house, even handbrake turns. First one I had was really old and had soild rubber tyres and a 'proper' square chasis and not a lot else, towards then end when I had worn through the pedals twice the chassis snapped and my grandad bought one that was far more like the ones you see now, with a cental transmission tunnel/spine but it had plastic wheels ruined it, really harsh ride no grip at all.

Something like this, just make sure it has rubber tyres.

Build something if you like, and if it can be a project, but just be aware its very easy to miss the opertunity and build something that really nice but two years too late.
Uncals done this twice now with boats, one for him to sail which he finished just as his kids where old enough to join him, and one for his kids to sails as teenages, which he sold unfinished once they where 20 and had left home.

I bought my son a Kettler and he had a lot of fun with it till he could ride a proper size bike so 4-7 years old.

Yeah, this is it.

As soon as I had the stabilisors off my 16inch bike I was off! Although before that the car won over the bike.

Still have both now, the kitcar, but also holidays downhill mountaining!

I'm so delighted I got missy pregers, I'll get to make stuff!!!

There's a few vids on you tube of kids trucks, tippers, fire engines even artic lorries so a landy is only one option, I may need a bigger garage once I'm done

Girls Are not all ways girly.

My 6 year old girl is out in the shed with me helping(ish)
I was even told she has talent at football.

But still loves to dress up girly when it suits.
