Hi all,
Recently had problems with juddering issues on my 306. Anyway everything seemed fine (as afore mentioned in another post - no HGF symptoms).
I replaced the Coil Pack which through process of ilimination and suggestions was the issue and all seems fine now - however there is a Slight judder
when going just over the 1000rpm point but nothing like before when it was only running on 3. No engine management light since replacement either.
I have also put some injector cleaner in and replaced the rocker cover gasket as it was perishing.
It would appear there is a small leak from either corner of the block - Head gasket? Nothing major just a damp oil run down either side of the block,
no puddle on the floor and does not seem to be loosing oil. I am not overheating, no smoke, no sludge under oil filler cap, no oil in the water /
header tank. It has done 64k. Is it likely that the gasket is on its way out? Or maybe some other issue? What's your opinion?

I'm not having any b*oddy luck with anything at the moment - The car is worth under 1k but not in a position to buy another at mo - so just need it running for another 12 months. If it's HGF - Is it even worth doing?
Did you pull out the plugs and recap when you changed the coil pack?

Worn plugs with large gaps kill coil packs, you should as a minimum pull them out and re-gap. Unless you know the owner and can be sure he had them
changed I would not trust him just saying so.
Most engines when a few years old have traces of grime and oil down the block, it's not a reason to be alarmed if the compression is good.
If the car was juddering a lot beforehand you may have stuffed an engine mount, I had a range rover once that had a nasty vibration at 2000rpm, the
flex plate mounting holes for the torque converter had elongated which was a cheap fix after I exhausted lots of other things expensively
Best thing is to make sure everything is adjusted correctly in the first instance, plug gaps, sensor gaps etc and see if it improves.

Oil seepage from the head gasket to the outside world is no reason to lift the head unless it is bad and making a real mess.
The tops of the plugs often get erroded and corroded the coil pack has failled also the outside surface plug insulator can get carbonised if a
spark has been flashing over.
The other thing to check is the spark plug gap.
Have you got petrol in your oil from Borewash, this will cause a missfire and also slight seepage of what looks like oil from the head. But it is a
petrol soot mix.
Recently had this myself caused by a faulty fuel injector.
Take filler cap off and have a sniff if there a Strong wiff of petrol its in the oil - replace oil immediately and give it a good thrash to break down
any varnish inside.
