My name's Zil and I'm a hairdresser.
zilspeed - 9/3/13 at 07:37 AM

Haven't called in for a wee while but figured I better because I miss the abuse.

And on that note, feel free to abuse me for my latest purchase

Ivan - 9/3/13 at 07:45 AM

No abuse - good purchase - have a look at what Clairtoo did to hers.

philw - 9/3/13 at 08:07 AM

Nothing wrong with that, I have two mk 1s, they are good fun

zilspeed - 9/3/13 at 08:24 AM

I know there's a bit of a following here, mostly from those who've done the Locost thing but feel like having a screen, heater etc.

It was Locost though, that's the main thing.

daniel mason - 9/3/13 at 08:33 AM

owelly - 9/3/13 at 08:34 AM

(Is that better?)

zilspeed - 9/3/13 at 08:43 AM

I feel all warm inside now.

mark chandler - 9/3/13 at 08:55 AM

Did it come with a nice blouse

Says the person who's car never see's rain or cold !

zilspeed - 9/3/13 at 09:00 AM

We needed a 2nd car for occasional use, which meant spending enough to get something tidy but no more than that.

We have a Passat for when all 3 of us need to go out together.

That 2nd car just needs to be able to pick our 11 yr old up sometimes.

Not to have bought an MX5 / MGF would have been a missed opportunity.
Anyone else would probably have bought a Focus / Astra.

I know y'all will understand though.

having gone from MG,s to 7,s and back to sensible fun motoring i must say i love my 5,cheap,warm,dry and still fun

morcus - 9/3/13 at 10:32 AM

When I saw the thread I thought you'd bought my car. I sold mine last week the day the MOT ran out and in selling it found all sorts of things wrong with it so I couldn't afford to keep it. Sold it to a guy who wants to do it up though as he reckond the shell for good despite everything else being not so, and I'm fairly certain that the Speedo had changed to Miles at some point as I'd apparantly done 1900Km, and I'm sure I've covered more than that.

Enjoy it, they're so much fun.

RIE - 9/3/13 at 11:14 AM

Haha, I've just this second been browsing the classifieds for Mk1 or Mk2. Might go and view a couple this afternoon.

DH2 - 9/3/13 at 01:37 PM

I've got a mk3 roadster coupe as my daily driver - it's a great car...

zilspeed - 9/3/13 at 02:21 PM

It all fell through.

The seller is a deal breaking, welching, reneging, no good, low life, scumbag bas***d.

It made Zil money at the auction and he's decided to back out.
No doubt selling to someone else for more money.
I wouldn't mind that, but just admit it and let me get on with finding another one.

He hasn't the bottle to admit it and won't return my calls or emails.

I'm now out for an insurance policy for a car which I don't have.

Was meant to pick it up at 10.00 this morning and at 9.00 got a text saying "there's a problem with the car, please don't come."

No further explanation, no more details regarding this 'problem'.
If it was just a minor thing like a flat battery, you'd tell the buyer.
Since 9.00, nothing. No phone call, no email, no text.

Went past his house and the car isn't there, but the bloke was there, tending to another car.

Maybe expecting the seller to honour an auction where a 1999 MX5 MK2 made the princely sum of £611 was a bit much to expect.

I'm still a hairdresser.

Different car, same profession.

Done the deal, haven't uplifted the car yet, but the bloke sound a bit more Gentlemanly this time.

No pics until the car is safely here on the driveway.

scudderfish - 9/3/13 at 06:18 PM

So are you going to fit it with a hairdryer and hairspray? (turbo & nitrous )

Dingz - 9/3/13 at 06:53 PM

Fingers crossed this time! I have one too, is it confession time? I think they are great but probably be avoided by larger Coiffure, still got the hard top on at the moment, luxury.

I take it this guy got reported

zilspeed - 10/3/13 at 02:51 PM

Currently trying to resolve it.

No longer want to deal with the individual.
Have suggested that if he'll agree to refund me my fees on my abortive insurance policy, I'll agree to a cancellation of the transaction.

If he doesn't agree with this, I'll go for a non performance against him and negative feedback.

Ninehigh - 10/3/13 at 06:26 PM

I can see him arguing that you shouldn't have sorted the insurance until you picked it up, but I guess it only came into force the day you were due to collect?

morcus - 10/3/13 at 06:37 PM

But had he done that, he couldn't have picked up the car. I thought they usually let you cancel for free if you did it right away.

zilspeed - 10/3/13 at 09:44 PM

By the time all of the messing about was done, the call centre was closed.

I called him Friday night to make sure we were on for Saturday.

We were.

On that basis, I arrange insurance to start on Saturday morning. The action of a reasonable person, I would hope you would agree.

He texted me on Satuday morning telling me there was a problem with the car.

Deal off at that point in my opinion.

He has now, late this afternoon contacted me again. It's now went from car problems to "he was ill".

A disconcerting lack of honesty here. If you're going to be a liar, you better have a good memory.

So, I'm definitely out. My hard earned is going elsewhere.

I had a simillar problem with that, they might let you off, or at worst you'll pay for a couple of days. Tell them what happend though and they'll probably be able to sort it out as when I cancelled n policy a week in they said if I could prove I'd sold the car before the policy started it would be free (I hadn't I'd sold it that day).

zilspeed - 10/3/13 at 09:50 PM

It looks very very like that we'll pick up the car we're now actually buying next Sunday.
Same insurance costs, so should be more or less neutral.
