Custom Pulley
Hector.Brocklebank - 29/7/13 at 04:50 PM

Hi Guys & Gals

Not car related I know but i just had to share the picture.

I am supercharging a BMW R1150R (just to scare the poop outta super bike riders)

I had them machine a custom trigger pattern (24-1 hayabusa)so I can run my M.B.E ECU

The pulley is run off the crank driving the alternator & the rotrex charger

Just out of curiosity (because i know nought about bike engines), how will the trigger wheel sensor pick up the signal? im presuming that you will have to mount the sensor in front of the pulley facing the teeth. the teeth look very thin (from an end on view perspective) are they thick enough to give a strong enough signal?

A picture speaks a thousand words as they say

The sensor(s) straddle the inside & outside of the teeth, the sensors are digital hall effect, so the teeth pass through the sensors breaking/making the signal, its already been tested with teeth a lot smaller than those on my pulley, the reason for going for 24-1 (same as a Hayabusa) is to get a higher signal resolution for the ECU, the sensor plate is mounted to the engine casing facing out straddling the crank and the pulley bolts to the crank with the trigger teeth facing in, all very simple.

And technically even though I can do it in the ECU software, because of the slots in the plate where it mounts to the engine casing I could still mechanically advance or retard the ignition if required.

Initially im only going to use one sensor, the top one but we may have custom code written for the ecu to make the lower sensor act like a cam sensor to allow the system to run fully sequential.

This is my build thread on the whole bike is over at the R1150 forum

My build

TTS Tuning are supplying the Charger kit, and Richard & Darren have been great, the bike will eventually be getting mapped at Daytuner when I get it all put together.
