how to ruin a classic car
02GF74 - 30/3/14 at 07:15 PM

You'd have to be slightly mentally disturbed to do this to an old triumph spitfire

MK3 Spitfire Hotrod

snapper - 30/3/14 at 07:22 PM

Oh my God
I had a MK3 when I was 21 the only thing I did to it was put a T bar shifter on it
Re trim the door cards in short fur
Put a 12 watt radio amp and 2 x 8" pub speakers behind the seats
And removed the back box
I now consider that to much

coyoteboy - 30/3/14 at 07:51 PM

To be fair nothing could ruin, it's already a bug-eyed hideous "classic". Each to his own!

prawnabie - 30/3/14 at 08:14 PM

If it keeps a another classic on the road fair play.

NigeEss - 30/3/14 at 09:47 PM

"I would be hoping to sell this car to a ...................................................or a MOVIE STAR"

Awesome

matt_gsxr - 30/3/14 at 09:54 PM

When he "ruined" it (1993) it was nothing like a classic.

At least he gave the old girl a bit of love.

splitrivet - 30/3/14 at 09:57 PM

His car so if he's happy who gives a monkies.
Cheers,
Bob

Exactly

benchmark51 - 31/3/14 at 07:28 AM

Each to his own, but Triumph spitfire a classic?

Didn't 'go' , didn't 'handle' only claim as a classic
was slightly pretty and is old.

If the fellah's happy with it, that's cool.

The spitfire is by definiton a classic car:
quote:
Classic Car – The definition of a classic car differs greatly amongst individuals and organisations alike. In general terms it refers to a car which is over the age of 20 years.

The definiton does not take styling, colour, performance or handling into account.

If he is that happy with it, why is he selling it: He's clearly been to Specsavers........

Agreed his Spitfire doesn't look too great to most people's eyes but i don't think it gives us the right to disrespect someone's choice or indeed to suggest it indicates anything untoward about their mental state.

if we carried that uber conformist nonsense to its conclusion we all be driving BMWs .

ashg - 31/3/14 at 04:55 PM

showed it to a chap at work who is a well known spitfire enthusiast. his words not mine follow..................

That's complete sacrilege, who ever did it needs to be whipped to death with a timing chain!

and who may you be to question what right I have to express an opinion? I have every right - commonly know as free speech.

you are taking this far too seriously.

sdh2903 - 31/3/14 at 07:34 PM

Marcus - 2/4/14 at 07:36 PM

Who may I be.. Well let me spell it out for you I want to remind you to be more careful about what you say. You have every right to free speach thats everybody's democratic right but you must expect comments when you cross the line into using medical conditions as a way of ridiculing someone whose taste you don't approve of.

It is just the same as if you had said someone's choice of car is rubbish so they have to be slightly disabled/eastern european/black/gay/disabled/low income//jewish/irish/learning difficulties/short/fat/bald/ginger/scouse etc. etc.

As someone who has actively worked to rehabilitate adolescents who have suffered from mental health issues I have an opinion.

I took the original comment as tongue and cheek, if it wasn't that's different. However that type of saying has been around since I was a kid and is still used today. Your PC response is typical of todays society I'm afraid, any type of joke will offend some people. That's why jokes are funny to some people and not others. Its how we react to it that sets us apart.

If someone was about to do a stunt in front of a crowd you were in and someone said 'this guys mental' would you start having a conversation / a rant with him about mental disability because of what he had said, no because the context is understood although what has been said is effectively the same as above.

My view is...
The internet unfortunately is only words and does not include tone or the meaning it was meant to delvier. The Internet...causing arguments from nothing since 1986

Also, if we think about us lot on here, who butchered perfectly usable Mk2 Escorts back in the late 1990's
and now MX5 are the current donor vehicles

surely that must be criminal in some peoples eyes

at least my Mk2 escort was a written off and VERY RUSTY wreck
