Parking with a cover over the car

Has anyone done this for a prolonged period of time without issue? The rented garage I use is having its roof ripped off this week so my car has to be outside for a week. A cover will do the job but will also cover the number plate potentially causing a violation of the need to display a number plate front and rear. There's also the thorny issue of how the hell I can display a visitors permit without it being nicked. My initial thought is cut a whole in the cover front and rear to expose the number plates and stick the cover down onto the reg plate with sellotape, the visitors permit I thought I'd write the car reg number all over it (apart from the scratch-off windows) and stick it in a laminating pocket and attach it to the covered nose cone with a plentiful amount of duck tape. That would hopefully prevent anyone from trying to nick it. I'd obviously have to change it each day....

Or should I just leave it covered on the basis that the traffic wardens can't remove the cover to give me a ticket and although they could ring the police out of spite I doubt they could be bothered!

People in London seem to get away with it. They cant stick a ticket on it if they don't remove the cover... if they remove the cover they'll see number plates and permit.

Seal all bits you need in a watertight transparent envelope and attach to the outside.

I dont quite know how they can actually give you a fine if they have no number plate or car details. Their computers will say no.

Ring the concerned authority and ask their guidance. They'll probably just give you a waiver for the week as displaying the permit is clearly infeasible. Don't wait to get a ticket then try challenge it.

As for number plates, I can't really see a necessity to display them if the vehicle is parked under a tarp? Write the reg on the cover to be sure.

I have e-mailed the local authority (ringing them is impossible unless you're trying to pay a fine!) but no news yet.... For the moment I've stashed it in the tiny work car park. Which isn't that popular with the people that normally use it (I don't normally). If I get kicked out of there I might just park it up and stick the stuff on the outside including the reg number....
