New Sylva
peter030371 - 5/4/16 at 12:05 PM

The new owner of Sylva, David MacBean, has setup a Facebook account. All you Facebook users out there search for 'Sylva Sportscars' on Facebook and make him your friend

More about his background and his plans for the Sylva brand in the forthcoming edition of the 'Proper Job' (when I get just a couple more hours to finish it...anyone want to build my car, train for my bike ride and sort out by extension for me?!?)

Extensions are hard work, difficult not to think you could do a better job yourself.

Bike training I find relatively easy using a turbo trainer - boring, but quite easy.

Befriended! :-)

We are using a well established building company with all trades 'in house'. It costs a few % more but I want the least hassle possible as I have enough going on without worrying about that!

Until I have the extension I have no room for a turbo trainer.....I use the gym bikes if the weather is pants

Friend request sent. Is the new Vectis R J17 still going to be MGF / MGTF single donor based ?

More interestingly, where are you cycling to?

I'm doing a 'long' route to Paris at the end of the month for a little holiday and then 'chase the sun' in the middle of summer. Both really as training towards a triple ascent of Ventoux in the Autumn!

Nothing even close to that i'm afraid! Some friends did the Tour Of Cambridgeshire Grand Fondo last year and I thought 'closed roads, 80 miles, that's not so difficult. I think I will give it a go'...now after a winter of training (having done less than 200 miles in total in 2015 and that is twice as much as 2014!) my maximum ride to date is 40 miles and that's only half way I am treating it as a race not just a pleasure ride, I want to do it as fast as my little legs will take me but never done anything like this before

Should get a 60 mile training ride in this weekend which is getting better

Well good luck with the training and the Grand Fondo, you're in a great part of the world for cycling and the weather should be getting better and better at the moment.

The only trouble with cycling is that it never gets any easier because the fitter and stronger you get, the faster and further you ride. I've not been out on my bike for a few weeks and am feeling bad about it. The furthest I've managed this year is only 30 odd miles but looking forward to making use of the lighter evenings and warmer weekends over the next few weeks.

(I also need to finish my striker in the next few weeks so good luck with yours!)

I am well versed in the 'it never gets easier....' saying and its very true but my times are getting better on a few repeat routes and I am recovering quicker

One can only assume that they don't have a King of the Mountains on that event?

Glad to see Sylva is back in business... would be nice to see Jeremy have a continued involvement, if only as a designer and consultant.

No hills to climb also means none to speed down

Jeremy is going to stay involved as you say

Is this the 'up all 3 sides in 24 hrs' thing? (http://www.clubcinglesventoux.org/en/rules.html)...?

I'll see how other cycling goes through the summer before I fully commit to a triple, that might be a little tough going...

I'm off to do this in June which will be a long day but no climbing: http://www.chasethesun.org/

A guy in my old codgers cycling club ( 40 Plus CC ) did the triple a couple of years ago and he was 72! Once up from Bedouin nearly killed me at 60. I nearly fell off at the Tommy Simpson memorial and joined him. Good luck with that ( and the Sylva project )!
PS. There are easier intros to serious mountain climbing than the Ventoux triple . Try The Alpe d' Heux ( just once ) !
