Mr Whippy - 30/9/09 at 09:04 AM

what you going to do with the doors? they must be very flimsy now, what if someone crashes into the side of you?

blakep82 - 30/9/09 at 10:01 AM

^^ roll cage i'd think

hmmm, fibreglass seats. personally i wouldn't. they seem flimsy if not supported at the back (or have something to lean against) but i've never had fibreglass seats, so i don't know about them, and some FIA spec ones are kevlar...

personally, i'd be looking at steel tube framed ones

cd.thomson - 30/9/09 at 10:03 AM

the doors are about as thick as my pug's doors now

is a vts? or whatever the sporty version was? Whats the engine?

PAUL FISHER - 30/9/09 at 10:55 AM

You have not left alot in in there Martin,as for seats,I dont think the fibreglass ones would be suitable. If your on a buget I would look on ebay,I managed to pick up 2 cobeau composite race seats, only 6 months old still in FIA date until 2012,£800 worth of seats for £130 for the pair, there are bargains out there, but even these would be ok as a buget trackday seats.

will121 - 30/9/09 at 11:33 AM

i cant see the pictures at work as blocked, but think use of fibreglass seats limited by locations of seat belt/harness anchor points, in that may be ok with rear harness anchor point high up on a roll cage mid rail directly behind seat harness holes but not if anchored down to the floor as the loads in a accident would impose compressive load down through the back to the seat and if not reinforced enough collapse

eccsmk - 30/9/09 at 12:34 PM

cheers folks
the doors will be ok as the cage will have x type door bars added to it

the engine is 2 litre 16valve bolted to a 6 speed box rumour has it that these engines are 167 bhp but we shall see,

thank you for the link paul i'll keep my eye on ebay
also i ned to remove as much weight as poss to keep up with a certain silver clio

bits also lightened are
the bumpers (al the reinforcement is out)
all spare/unused brackets are out
the rear quaters look like swiss cheese

about70% of the loom has gone

all sound deadening is out

the heater is out (replaced with a little electric one from CBS

all plastic trim, clips, brackets from the engine bay have gone

i just need some way of strapping it down on windy days

cd.thomson - 30/9/09 at 12:41 PM

Andy D - 30/9/09 at 03:02 PM

Proper little racer!

What size wheels does it use? I notice there are some more of Pete's 888 cast offs in the garage.

big_wasa - 30/9/09 at 03:44 PM

Ohh I like the gti-6, I did an omex and jenvey install for a guy last week and he is hoping for 190 bhp

G.Man - 1/10/09 at 12:02 PM

In the process of putting a GTI6 Engine in an '89 205 GTI at the moment. Should be a hoot!

cd.thomson - 1/10/09 at 12:20 PM

how difficult are you finding it G.Man? What box are you using? its something im interested in but it looks like its cheaper to just buy the cars with the work done than do it yourself!

Mine is in at the autoelectricians at the minute after it tried to set itself on fire, but not before cutting off power to the fuel pump and brake lights!

Ninehigh - 2/10/09 at 10:14 PM

I like the speed holes, did you get that off the Simpsons?!

matt.c - 2/10/09 at 10:26 PM

Looks like you are going to have fun!!

Bet you get it done and on its first trackday before i manage to find a kart i like!! I have 3 karts now (one built and the other 2 in bits) and still have not even got to a track yet.

Steve Hignett - 2/10/09 at 10:30 PM

no but strangely the grill is a complete solid lump and there is no way of air getting throught it and into the radiator
infact the rad can only get cold air from the two tiny grills in the bumper
so thats getting the holesaw treatment too

I am using the Xsara VTS box with a Tran-X diff, havent started the conversion yet as the GTi-6 is just being stripped and checked over. I am reliably informed, bar a few minor issues such as master cylinder clearance, it should be an easy install.

More info as it happens!q

eccsmk - 9/10/09 at 09:40 PM

eccsmk - 22/10/09 at 08:07 PM

a small update
poly windows are now in (front only until the rears arrive)
seats are now sorted out (well decided on)
new fandango steering wheel is here just need to sort out a boss for it

next on the list the suspension

craig_007 - 23/10/09 at 09:04 PM

For track use the Mi16 final drive is best mated to a 1900 box,Failing that a 1600 box is good also, forget about the 6 speed box in a 205 though.

eccsmk - 26/10/09 at 09:03 AM

some random pics to add
still no big updates yet

new wheel bought off marco on here

all the tube for the cage cut to length and gathering rust

one of the seats brackets i started at the weekend
the other is perched on the roll cage tubing (pic above)
the reason one end isnt welded yet, i cant remember the bolt hole centre's and the side that is welded was marked up in the car (9 miles away)

a random shot of what was removed from the passenger door

and a random engine bay shot (taken when we were marking out for the bonnet pins

more photo's later if i remember to take my camera
