Have I made the wrong wheel choice??
franky - 26/3/10 at 07:41 PM

New wheels have arrived.... I was going to use the donor wheels as I liked the deep dish look. However due to a great offer and the fact the wheels needed recon and new rubber I got a set of OZ ultraleggera with toyo T1-R's. 17" as the offer only applied to the one set at a bloody good price. Yes I might be 0.5 seconds slower on track but hey!

Just not sure if i'm sold on them in the flesh.... are they a little too bling?

scootz - 26/3/10 at 07:43 PM

Personally I wouldn't have 17's, but that said, they do look nice!

jacko - 26/3/10 at 07:43 PM

No they look great

Miks15 - 26/3/10 at 07:46 PM

they look pretty good to me!

Hammerhead - 26/3/10 at 07:47 PM

they are the best wheels ever...........i've got them too! 15 inchers for me

philw - 26/3/10 at 07:48 PM

I've got them on mine albeit in 15" they look ok but my main concern was weight 5.1kgs

franky - 26/3/10 at 07:54 PM

the 17" are only 7.5ish kg's. I know 17" aren't everyones choice but it was down to cost and I wasn't sure 15" would go over the brakes at the rear.

couch22k - 26/3/10 at 07:56 PM

Very nice

perksy - 26/3/10 at 07:57 PM

They look very nice

But i wouldn't want to go any bigger than 15's on a 7 tbh

eddbaz - 26/3/10 at 08:14 PM

I like them

roadrunner - 26/3/10 at 08:14 PM

I have 17s one mine and i think they are ok, the difference in performance wont be really noticeable either.
By the way, the wheels look great.

I'm not worried about the tiny fractions of a second smaller wheels would save me. These are lighter than most 15" wheels.

blakep82 - 26/3/10 at 08:22 PM

i prefer deep dish alloys...

Simon - 26/3/10 at 08:25 PM

I like them, and have had no probs with 17" on my car!!

i like the style of wheels, but i dont like the look of 17" wheels on a 7'esque car.

Humbug - 26/3/10 at 09:23 PM

lotusmadandy - 26/3/10 at 09:27 PM

nice.Good choice

Andy

franky - 26/3/10 at 09:28 PM

I'm now sold on them, a good 45 minutes staring at them has done it! The finish is top notch.

There not too big either Functional is what i'd say. I'll enjoy the 1" extra ground clearance.

tomgregory2000 - 26/3/10 at 09:41 PM

17 is not big
if i went any smaller on my viento i would drag it along the ground

plus you can get MUCH bigger tyre choice and much more width

ian86 - 26/3/10 at 10:08 PM

with those 17's you need to get bigger brakes, just doesn'tlook right for me. fill the rim.

hobbsy - 26/3/10 at 10:16 PM

Nah they are rubbish

look fab but as others have said 17's are too big for 7. IMO of course!!!

bimbleuk - 27/3/10 at 06:46 AM

If it was mostly for track then I wouldn't have gone so big but they look good and look fairly easy to clean which is always a consideration for me!

The brakes are 286mm..... don't need any bigger on a kit! Apart from people's opinions on 17's it seems like I've got a good deal then.

Not only will you be slower, 17's will ruin the handling and ride of a seven. Maybe they look nice, but bouncing off into the weeds on a bumpy country road when the rear end lets go unpredictably is not my cup of tea

Each to their own I suppose

I nearly spat my tea over the laptop then!

Thats never going to happen because of 17" wheels over 15, especially lightweight ones. They're hardly going to cause any of what you said to happen, thats one of the boldest statements I've read on here.

The car that won Kit car of the year 2007 in the handling department ran on 17's. Its not going to ruin the ride or handling as long as the car is set up. We're only talking about bits of a second for the top 5-10% of fast trackday drivers/racers.

wilkingj - 27/3/10 at 11:32 AM

Its all a matter of relative scaling.

You really need a Bigger CAR

Like a Viento, then they will look fine
