Hi guys,
I have just acquired a sylva striker today and i'm very excited about it!
You may have seen it on pistonheads, it's a part built project, most of the chassis work has been done, still needs a little bit more and some
bodywork doing, and surprise surprise, ALL of the wiring is yet to be done!
Plans are to get the car IVA worthy and get it on the road. Main decision i need to make at the moment is whether to keep the 1300 xflow that's
in it at the moment or upgrade it before the wiring commences to a zetec or similar....
Anyway, i'm in Horsham near gatwick. I look forward to bugging you all with the many questions i am likely to have!
Regards,
Andy
I like strikers
yeh me too!
it's been about a year coming for me to get a kit, and i knew the striker was the one i wanted! I'm just bloody glad i just about fit!
I also like strikers, but i'm biased
Regarding your upgrade question, it really depends on your budget. Cheap and easy way is to keep the xflow, but a zetec is more modern, powerfull and
adds value to the car once it's finished. Only downside is that you'll need the more modern bodywork with the bigger bulge i think because
of the height
But if you really want to do it the striker way, you'll need a 4AGE

Glad you managed to get the transport sorted mate I'm in Worthing and work in gatwick so look forward to seeing it on the road and to meet up for some evening driving :-)
Werner, yeh it would be cheaper to just keep the xflow in and maybe tune it up, but i'm not sure if i'll be happy with the final power.
It's basically keep the xflow and wire up, or decide that it will be easier to change the engine at this stage as it's not wired at
all...
lewis, will definitely be up for a few drives! i have a friend near hassocks with an elise that i usually go out with... will be a while off yet
though, need the IVA first! what locost are you in?
Good choice. The Striker is a cracking car.
I was hoping you meant one of these...
My second bike (after the Boxer!).
damn, now i've seen that my striker feels quite inadequate....
Sorry...
I've now gone and given myself a rush of nostalgia-itis... been looking at Raleigh Strikas, Boxers and Grifters on the net!
I'd better get offline before I end up on eBay and bid for some tatty old Raleigh's that I really don't need!
PS - Lovely car Pekwah!
Glad you got it sorted, did you ever find out what went on? Does she look ok? Apologies for not giving you a call when I was down your neck of the
woods, I deffo buzz you when I'm next in Woodhatch which shouldn't be too far away from you.
Take care
Rich
hey rich, well the guy sounded geniune enough tbh. The guys before were just taking a long old time to decide if they were gonna take it or not, but
sounded like they would, so the guy wanted to offer it to them first as they were first in which is fair enough. A bit annoying that he said we could
go have a look knowing this though..
Anyway, it's looking alright so far, just started taking stuff off to have a browse..
BTW you'll need to change your profile now, you are now building a striker...
Done and Done!

I likey!
How is the xflow at getting through the IVA emissions regs?
Will it be easier as its an older lump and has a higher target, or harder because its on carbs...
Thats where I'd be looking at it from.
p.s. I had a grifter, which was the heavist push bike ever made.
yeh i was thinking about the iva as well.... as for carbs, it doesn't even have a throttle body at all yet!
That kit must be really old! either that or its a Raw Striker
If you haven't driven a seven-alike car before, with its ultra-light weight and rear-wheel drive, I'd recommend keeping the x-flow.
You'll find the power-to-weight ratio...er... interesting!
Once you've driven it for a while then upgrade to whatever takes your fancy...
As said above - you'll also get an easier ride through the IVA.
Drop steve m a u2u, he's in Crawley and has a crossflow in his locost, cracking bloke to chat to, sure he wouldn't mind you getting it touch. Cheers Rich
Another Horsham builder, there are a few of us in the area now
Hey Pek
I went to have look at at Striker also...
nearly bought it, but it was the engine that put me off...
I was going finish and then sell, but it would be more sellable with a zetec or 4age which would have upped the cost of build.
In retrospect i wished i'd bought it.
Good luck with finishing off.
Dave
ahhh, so you were the other guy!
yeh from speaking to john it was sounding like you were gonna take it off him... i was also a bit put off by the engine, but the fact that no wiring
had been done i figured if it bothers me that much i can change it without too much stress (apart from the wallet anyway!).
Well if you were gonna build and sell then it's better i have it cos i WILL drive it!
Cracking little car the Striker i really like it
and Mel at RAW is a very nice chap
Just a Little bit Too small for me though
it's too small for me as well really, i'm 6'3" but at the same time i just don't care, i fit enough to drive it so it's good enough for me!
At first i was going to share car with me mate (who' 6'7" as a trackday car, but he would'nt be able to fit in it, then the build
and sell idea came about, but as i said was put off by engine change costs.
I do Like Strikers and one day i'll own one!.

Get the iva first is my opinion.then go mental when your bored of what you've got!I built mine from scratch and the only real sva problems were emissions bar hitlers little snags on reflectors etc.with the right paperwork get it on the road then play with things!the striker outclasses most on the road if your not into bling wheels and mine handles a lot more power than was invented when the striker was!build it,find a b road and enjoy!then swap engine, find an a road, employ helicopter police spotted and see how fast you can really cross country!
Mines a mk Indy I bought it a few weeks ago it has 11 months mot on it but not put it on the road yet as there are a few things I'm not happy with, it's running a 2.1l pinto with piper cam and twin webber 45s at mo but am going to swap with a blacktop and bike carbs I have waiting in my garage, winter project me thinks.
I'd aim to get it through IVA with the cross-flow while keeping an eye out for a 1.6 to drop in if I could find one. Then use it for a summer and
upgrade the next winter. You can always set up some of the things you need for injection in advance like fuel return and leave them blanked off.

ps. It 's crying out for a bike engine though...

6'2" but with long legs and I had one for 6 years so they aren't that bad. I did lift the pedal box to suit my big feet though.
If you can register the car on a pre-cat plate that will make your life a lot easier for MOTs etc.
I did that then fitted a more modern engine later.
Im about 5'9" and im too short for my Striker!!
I have got Bimbles old one though!
Strikers are awsome. I get soo many people wanting to look around it just because its a Striker and they want to know how a car can be built. They are
small on width though. Me and my 14stone brother did an 1100mile round trip to the ring in it and it was faultless. they are pretty mean cars and look
different which is good.
Depending on the miles you cover you may get bored with the engine quite quickly. Anybody can drive in a straight line its the cornering that takes
along time to master and the Striker can handle.
I have a 20V 4age in mine and it is quick dont get me wrong but I want more already. The chassis feels under powered and I want to feel the rear end
struggle under power. By the time I have saved the pennies for a supercharger Ill have mastered the handling . . . . hopefully.
Glad to see any other Striker in the mix.
Enjoy!!
Biz
Yeh i love the looks of the striker and the basic rawness of it, that's the main reasons i went for one over an indy or tiger etc...
I know everyone says you don't need straight line speed etc, it's the cornering where it makes up, but why not have both? And from having
been in some powerful cars, straight line speed can be equally as fun as corners!
